On the back of a discussion with Wendy

Why are there no women writing and directing Science Fiction? I can't think of any at all. Even in the book world, I can think of a few female fantasy writers but none for sci-fi. Surely there must be some? Dan, know of any? I'm suddenly feeling very melancholy that there are no women of note in this world. Sci-Fi is my world, there is surely someone out there representing my gender?

Edit - Just want to make it clear that obviously I haven't forgotten about Mary Shelley, I was just thinking in more modern times.

Edit 2 - I just brought a Zoe-esque Brown Coat from Ebay. Hee. I know I have no technical right to call myself a Browncoat (and I am fully ashamed of myself - anything that nabbers ever tells me about fandom again will immediatly be done) but that doesn't mean I can't wear one. Plus I needed a lighter coat and it's shiny, so nuh.

firefly, sci-fi, the other dirty f word
