WOOOO! Gay high fives! It took me a long time to get on the slash wagon myself, it was Toby/Sam in The West Wing that got me on board. But then Sherlock/John broke me beyond any and all recognition. SO BROKEN. In the best kind of way. On an intellectual level I wonder why I should find the idea of one man boffing another so attractive as I do not, individually, find men attractive (disclaimer for Mr Cumberbatch). Surely one man = not that attractive so two men = REALLY not attractive but somehow in my mind it actually = BURNING HOT ATTRACTION LIKE NINE MILLION SUNS!!!!11 Who knows? Just accept the love and bask in it I say. Omg. The love! THE LOVE!!!
I would also like to say that I think that everyone on LJ must also be obsessed with knitting. And cats.
Have you seen The Kids Are Allright? Interesting discussion in that about gay women finding gay male pr0n attractive. I realise you're talking about angels and not manly beefcakes humping but I found it relevant in my gay gay mind.
I think it's just the attraction thing. If two people are generally attractive, whether we find them personally attractive or not, then them having sex = extreme hotness, yes? Or something like that.
I love both knitting and cats, LOOK HOW WELL I FIT IN!
...and realising that I now embraced the unofficial LJ rules that everyone must be gay, depressed or both. I have a kink! A proper one! I BELONG NOW, Y/Y?
Lol! Congrats for finding your personal flavor of kink... and such a unique one at that! ;)
I've never really thought about being gay or preferring slash in fandom as anything different or special tbh, but maybe that's just my deeply ingrained world view that homosexuality is just as normal as any other kind of sexual orientation. If someone is gay or not simply doesn't make any difference to me at all. However, the lack of really good canon gay pairings on TV often makes me realize that the majority of society sadly isn't that accepting overall.
I think it's the whole 'take two straight characters and imagine them gay' thing that I find kinda fascinating, rather than slash in general. But like you say, the lack of canon gay pairings is so utterly ridiculous I guess it gets to the point that people will just make them up. But for me, this is the first time I've seen actual potential for the idea in canon, which is what amazes me.
This post cracked me up. I didn't know about this unspoken LJ rule. *laugh*
Slash does nothing for me, never has, probably never will, but that's OK because I can enjoy Supernatural 'salty goodness without it.
To be honest I don't see the Cas and Dean Ship. Sometimes the gay substext is really obvious, as in Rizzoli & Isles, but I'm sorry to say I just don't see it in Supernatural. Close friends, yes; but I ain't seeing any eye fucking.
But hey, YMMV. And I'm happy you're having so much fun shipping these two.
Does angst junkie counts as a kink? Cos that's all I got. *pouts*
Really? I find it hard to imagine that anyone COULDN'T see it, but then I never understood why people thought Adama/Roslin was such a great ship. To each their own, eh?
Is there a lot of subtext in Rizzoli and Isles? Given Angie Harmon's political leanings, I'm always surprised when people say that.
While I've always preferred them more as best friends, Dean/Cas do have TONS of chemistry together, and the show isn't exactly shying away from innuendo, so I can totally see where you (and other fans who ship them romantically) are coming from. That's a great analysis you did on the parallels between their backstories/personalities, and it really shows why they've clicked so effortlessly! I'm very much looking forward to Dean ~coming to Cas' rescue~ this season. :D

P.S.: That icon is brilliant.
