We went to refractednotion's belated birthday celebration last night, which entailed delicious chili, tasty drinks, "Spaced", and bad movies served on instant play from Netflix.
It wasn't until this morning, sipping my coffee, that the significance of the last hit me: it's not quite DVD quality yet, but we've achieved true low-latency video on demand. 15 years ago, as a freshman in high school, I put together a paper for one of my classes describing how such a system might work. Holy smokes, we're living in the future!
