This world wasn't meant for us both.

There's a meme going around on tumblr that apparently made the rounds on LJ a while ago. I never saw it then but I've finally got photoshop/apparently some sort of desire to cast things, so I went ahead and cast the movie of my life.

Samantha has a nice life. She’s got a loving but crazy family, a sweet, funny boyfriend , and lives in Chicago, one of the greatest cities in the world. The only thing she’s missing is a great female friend. When she meets Laura and they click instantly, it’s like all her dreams have come true - until she meets Laura’s controlling roommate, Kat.

Laura and I have been talking about writing a romantic comedy about our relationship for a very long time, basically since we met and discovered we have so much in common/are so alike. And honestly, with bromances being such a thing in the movies these days, we need some chick-mances.

Alexis Bledel as Samantha

I had to choose Alexis. I spent the better part of 3 seasons (2, 3, & 4) idealizing Rory Gilmore and wanting to be her and thinking that if I were in her shoes I’d do the same things, and she influenced me an unbelievable amount and if anyone were to play me in a movie I want it to be her.

Justin Long as Justin, the boyfriend

I think Justin would have as much to do in the movie as, say, Rashida Jones had in I Love You, Man. The meme said to cast the love interest, and in this story, he's just there, a steady element in the main character's life. I cast Justin Long because I've had a crush on him the longest, 12(!) years, since Galaxy Quest. Also I couldn't cast Milo Ventimiglia because I need to use some actors not from Gilmore Girls.

Ellie Kemper as Laura, the best friend

It is actually kind of hard to find pictures of Ellie Kemper on the internet, especially since I tried to steer away from screencaps. But I picked Ellie because Laura is is a happy, bubbly, funny redhead whose goal in life is to work at Pixar as an animator. I went through a couple of different redheads (Molly Quinn when I was thinking younger, Karen Gillan) before I finally thought of Ellie, and I just went, YES.

Kristen Bell as Kat, the arch-nemesis

The meme had a spot for an arch-nemesis, and since there's not really one in the storyline of mine and Laura's relationship, I made one up. Kat is currently Laura's roommate, and she's pretty goddamn awesome and in no way an arch-nemesis, but for the sake of the plot she's going to come off controlling and terrible, and Samantha will wonder why Laura can't see how terrible Kat is, and Laura will wonder why Samantha hates Kat, and at the end everyone will love everyone and hang out together all the time. Anyway, real life Kat is tall, blonde, and gorgeous, and Kristen Bell is two for three, and I really love KBell and think she would make a fantastic bitch/eventual awesome girl.

Ian Gomez as Todd, the dad; Lauren Graham as Patty, the mom

Ian Gomez (especially on Cougar Town) basically is my dad: Hispanic, short, balding, same body type, kind of a big doofus. Seriously, sometimes his picture freaks me out a little bit.

I’ve alway sort of wanted my relationship with my mom to be like Lorelai and Rory’s. Since I’ve moved out and she’s been retired and in a much better mood a lot of the time, we are actually almost getting there! So Lauren Graham should definitely play my mom.

At first, I was worried that Ian and Lauren wouldn't work well together, but somehow they actually look like they would be a good fit in these pictures.

Keir Gilchrist as Jesse, the brother; Elle Fanning as Ceci, the sister

Casting my brother was really difficult for me. My brother doesn’t have full-blown Asperger’s, but he’s definitely on the edge of it. For a while I thought about using the kid who plays Max on Parenthood, but he’s too young since my brother’s almost 15. I finally decided on the kid from It’s Kind of a Funny Story, because I thought he did a great job. It was only later I realized that Lauren Graham played his mother in that movie.

I picked Elle Fanning for my sister because like Elle Ceci is 12, tall, gorgeous, and will break a lot of hearts in high school.

Man, I kind of want to actually write this script now.
