Roads? Where we're going we don't need...roads.

Now, I don't want to overhype it too much, but my Saturday was pretty much the greatest ever.

First I went to see Back To The Future at the Egyptian in Hollywood. It was $11 for all three movies, though I only stayed for the first two. Only one person I knew was there, Chris from class. He is very, very cute, and very nice, and EXTREMELY excited about this movie. He sat next to me, so I could hear all of his freaking out. There were people in the audience dressed up - one person had Marty's orange vest, someone else had Marty Jr's colorful baseball cap, and one couple was COMPLETELY decked out - he was Marty Jr from head to toe, and she was Griff's female gang member. It was awesome. Before the movie started, we had a Q&A with one of the actors from the movie: Lea Thompson! This is much better than the "Save the clock tower" lady, which was what Chris had been saying all week. Lea is still gorgeous, and was funny and interesting. She said the script changed a lot by the time they finished, and Bob Zemeckis basically spent his whole life trying to find the newest special effects. She also said Crispin Glover and Michael J Fox were really different, acting wise, but both brilliant.

After that, the movie came on, and I swear, people applauded every time a new name came on screen during the opening credits, but eventually everyone settled down. There was a lot of applause and laughter, however, even at lines/scenes that everyone's seen a billion times. It was a fun time, I've never experienced anything quite like that before. Between movies, Chris and a few of the other people with him decided to leave, leaving me with people I'd never met before, but whatever. The Q&A that time was with the girl who played Marty's girlfriend in the first movie, which was not as fun and informative as Lea Thompson's. She did say that she didn't know who Huey Lewis was at the time, but Michael Fox brought albums for Huey Lewis to sign. The second movie didn't get as many laughs/claps as the first one, but was still fun and remains my favorite, if only because of everything in 2015.

At that point, it was 10 o'clock, and I knew I had to get over to the Whisky-A-Go-Go to see Dayplayer, so I left everyone there and drove down Sunset Blvd on a Saturday night, which is an experience in itself. When I got to the Whisky, though, I got a hand stamp, which I honestly have never had at a bar before, and I was pretty excited, not gonna lie. It said "The Original" and everything! Ha, so, when I got there this metal band was playing, and it was loud and not fun, but by the time I got out of the bathroom/got a drink, they were gone and The Stanley Blacks were setting up. The Stanley Blacks are a British band, I believe, with an AMAZING guitarist and a drummer who looked like he was having the time of his life, so I just watched him most of the time and yep, he's my favorite. I couldn't actually understand what they were saying, but they were pretty fun.

Anyway, then they left and Dayplayer started setting up, and I started getting giddy because John Daley is really, really adorable, and he was basically 20 feet away from me (sidenote: I have never, ever been this close to a band in my life, unless you count dances in high school). He had a goatee, which he actually (sort of) pulled off. Man, that whole band is pretty adorable, actually. You could tell that the girls thought so, because I swear, the crowd doubled when The Stanley Blacks left, and it was mostly cute little indie-boy-loving girls, with a few annoyingly tall boys thrown in (most of them right in front of me). So, the band got set  up, and right away they played my favorite song (out of the 3 I know), Hollywood Couple, sung by Luke, who is their bassist/guitarist/singer. Tien also sang a few songs, and he is FANTASTIC. At one point, he had an acoustic guitar strapped on and was playing the violin at the same time, which was so kick-ass I can't even tell you. He and Luke traded the bass back and forth a few times, and generally they, along with the drummer Matt (I have a thing for drummers, guys) seemed like they were definitely having the greatest time up there. Their other guitarist, Pete, basically was just there to play the guitar, and John Daley is pretty much just the taller, older, keyboard playing version of Nick Jonas. Don't get me wrong, he smiled (and he has very nice dimples, and they are just as good-looking in person as they are on TV), but it was generally between songs, while everyone was cheering for him. When he sang, he closed his eyes and was very serious. He can definitely play the keyboard, though, it was AWESOME. They are definitely a fun band live and I will definitely try to catch them again.

After their (annoyingly short) set, I hightailed it out of there and did not stick around to take pictures or anything, because I was alone and I am not as brave alone as I am with someone, and also I don't have a camera or anything, so I would have been going up to John Daley and being like, "Um, hi, I like you on Bones and you're really funny on Kitchen Confidential, and you're good at music," or something, and it would have been awkward. I did see him outside the Whisky on my way home, hugging people/taking pictures/generally looking a lot less serious than he was on stage. Also, during the show, I totally heard someone behind me saying that John (I think) was Jasmine's boyfriend's roommate, which just goes to show how small a crowd it actually was (maybe 50 of us on the floor? I'm terrible at estimating).

All in all, a WONDERFUL day, and a pretty late one, so today I slept 'til 11 and did nothing constructive, though I have watched a lot of Bones. As a matter of fact, I'm off to watch "The Bones That Foam," which is my favorite body, I believe, because I think it's awesome when the bones start, you know, foaming.

movies: back to the future, music: dayplayer, tv: the bones, name-dropping, flaily hands are a normal response, la: the land of dreams
