Pre-concert stuff: or I hate merch tables with a passion

I love Constitution Hall because it’s right in the middle of DC. As we walked from the metro, you could see all of the museums and monuments and at night it’s all very pretty. We got there right at 7:00 and hurried in for Phantom. I thought I was going to hate having floor seats, but it actually worked out really well. I didn’t have to deal with the headache that is the pit, and we had really decent seats. Tenth row! I also managed to get decent pictures and video because I didn’t have to worry about people moving me around in the pit. I’ll get my fill of pit action at Bamboozle, so this was a nice change of pace for now.

Yes, I was like the only crazy girl standing and singing along to the phantom planet songs. (Yes the same girl with Ryan Ross rose vest shirt.) I saw Phantom about two years ago, and I’ve loved them ever since. It still kind of floors me that they have more experience than all of the other bands, and are opening.

Hush Sound. Idk, Greta sounded off to me. Bob was on though. Medicine Man is amazing.

I missed half of Motion City because I was standing in line at the merch table. There were a million people trying to buy crap and only like 5, very bored, very slow people working the table. I almost waited until Bamboozle to get my shirt it was that ridiculous.

Of course there had to be a damn 12 year old birthday party in the row in front of me. And that’s fine, I expected it, but they were really obnoxious. There were only two good things about this: the mom was sitting down most of the time, so I could see better and they left before the finale, so my sister and I hopped over the back of the seats and moved up a row. It was kind of amazing.

While they were setting up the panic stage, I couldn’t stop giggling. My sister though I was on crack. The flower microphones are out of control but I love them. Zack was also setting out Coronas for the boys, complete with limes. My sister asked if they were all 21. I informed her that no, Spencer was not. But Brendon was drinking beer on stage before he turned 21 a couple of weeks ago. She thought that was funny.

Panic Set: or live Folkin’ Around has completed my life

I knew it was going to be a good night when the first thing I saw when they walked out on stage was Brendon whispering into Ryan’s ear and the Ryan whispering something back and Brendon smiling like a dork. God those boys kill me and they weren’t even doing anything really.

Spencer Smith and your head band, Ryan has transferred his hippie to you apparently. It’s cool with me. I was kind of center and off to the right, so it was easy to get Brendon and Ryan and Spencer all in the same shot. They gave him a microphone too, so he talked to the crowd a bit.

I really like the stripped down version of ‘but it’s better if you do’. It’s just so… sexy I guess. That might be weird, but if a song can be sexy, it felt sexy to me. lol.

They kind of made fun of Ryan for the tambourine. I thought it was hot. I mean, look at that boy's hips. *loves*

My life is complete, I have seen ‘Folkin’ Around’ live. I heard that at some of the earlier concerts Brendon was doing ‘I have Friends in Hold Spaces’ instead. I like that one too, but I am so happy that I got to see ‘Folkin’ Around’. I swear that song owns my soul.

Towards the middle, Ryan said that the audience should all take off their shoes and slide around on the carpet. I can’t remember what song they were doing next, but he said it would be good for the song. Of course everyone started waving their flip-flops and slip on shoes in the air. Ryan took off his shoes too. He probably says the same thing at every concert but I thought it was cute.

I think it was during ‘These tables are numbered’, I can’t remember, but Ryan and Brendon did this guitar waltz thing across the stage. I wish I could have gotten video. It was really adorable.

Oh Shane. He was taking video of the boys on stage for most of the show. He was off to the side with Zack most of the time. At one point, Ryan turned to him and I swear he was making kissy faces for the video. So cute. In this picture I’m sure Zack is looking at me like I’m crazy for aiming the camera at him.

Towards the end, Shane ducked behind the set towards the back and hid behind the platform that Spencer’s drums were on. He was taking video from the back of the stage. I may have embarrassed myself with the squealing when Brendon sort of dove at Shane for the video.

Sister: who’s the dude taking video of them on stage?
Me: Oh that’s Shane, Brendon’s roommate and best friend. They have a dog together. It’s all very domestic.
Sister: right. And you’re kind of a creepy stalker for knowing that.
Me: yeah well, I’ll own it.

The finale was the same. The acoustic ‘time to dance’ was amazing. I think we actually pulled off the keyboard part pretty well, for once. Brendon sounded really good and I was surprise at how well the sound on my video turned out. After that they all came back on stage and Brendon got a little back rub action from one Jon Walker. Then came ‘pas de cheval’. During the guitar solo Brendon got right up behind Ryan and sort of leaned in. They exchanged looks. I’m not gonna lie, it was kinda hot and the video I have doesn’t really do it justice. lol.

Some random thoughts or the way they look at each other makes me so happy
I’ve talked about Brendon’s stage charisma before, but wow. That boy makes me melt every single time. There’s just something about the way he can connect with an audience that really makes him a great performer. Maybe I’m bias, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone who’s able to do it so well. He just makes you feel like you’re the only person in the room, like he’s singing directly to you even with the millions of people all around.

I love how they all communicate on stage. For me it’s one of the best things about this band. Not just the suggestive things, but the eye contact and the looks back and forth. It’s really obvious that they know each other very well and are comfortable on stage because of that. They each went back to Spencer and seemed to really want to include him. I thought that was adorable.

I really enjoyed their set. I though it was a great mix of the old and the new and I loved the way they mixed up some of the old songs. I was disappointed with the absence of ‘build god’ but everything else was solid.

The boy seemed really comfortable on stage. I think they’re at the point where they know how the set’s going to go, and what little things they’re going to add but they’re not to the point yet where they’re tired of being on the road. Perfect for me.
