Challenge: #59 Guilt
Not a day goes by that she doesn't think of Janet. Survivor's guilt, MacKenzie calls it. It didn't feel like regular guilt though - like after Martouf. Instead it sat in her stomach like a drawn out illness with no cure.
Time passed and still. Sometimes imagining Janet's brilliant smile made her world contract and distort in an uncharacteristic panic she quickly suppressed. Carters don't panic.
Silently she cursed Daniel for giving her this sick expectation that her best friend might walk in the door relatively unscathed one day. It was a futile desire but a desperate hope still remained.
Life continued on as normal.
