He didn’t like her answer. Or her tone of voice when she had said it but he’d accepted it.
Or he’d tried to for an hour before going to talk to her about it again.
“You were lying.”
“Are you sure this is what you want?”
“Yes.”
“I was?”
“I don’t think you want to do this.”
He ignored how she’d already packed most of the things she needed into a small case.
“You don’t?”
“Sam. Talk to me.”
She sighed. He was right.
“I don’t want to elope.”
He emptied out the case.
“I was never serious about the Elvis wedding.”

Notes: What came to mind for word of the day for the 4th, Distrait-divided or withdrawn in attention, especially because of anxiety.
They wanted her to relax, but they’d pushed her too far and now she couldn’t. She wasn’t scared, just nervous, her eyes moving back and forth between them.
Jack leaned over to kiss her but her mind was on what Janet was doing while her eyes were closed.
“Sam, we won’t hurt you.”
“I wish you would, at least that would be something.” She pulled at the restraints on her wrists. She’d been tied to the bed for over an hour now, naked and waiting.
Janet trailed her fingertips up Sam’s thigh and she moaned.
“She’s not that nervous.” Jack smirked.

She was pretty and sweet but he knew violent re-offenders with cleaner language.
She swore when she was really angry or very frustrated, just like everyone else. She talked dirty in bed too but this was new. This was beyond anything he had expected from her.
The briefcase in the gut was a complete surprise too.
“I’m sorry!” He cried. “I didn’t know.”
She continued swearing, with the mention of the size of the phone bill put in for good measure.
“I didn’t realise it had installed that porn dialler.”
She stopped suddenly.
“Next time. If you want porn. It’s under my bed.”
