Sam finally made it to her lab, making a grab for the briefing lying atop the workbench.
Her eyes widened in shock.
A single red rose lay atop the report, tag hanging from the stem.
Curiosity filled her, another few minutes wouldn't hurt.
'Happy Birthday' scrawled across the card in that oh-so-familiar handwriting.
Sam smiled, gently holding the flower to her nostrils.
Inhaling the soft delicate sent.
Some things were worth being late over.
