Looking forward to going to GenghisCon this weekend, working like nothing these days and will post about my life in the next few days, but for now there is the second half of the meme..

Time Travelers wife - this is the one time I went to the cinemas alone (I was in Melbourne and lonely), I thought it was a really good sweet storyline and had the right amount of mushy romance and time traveling awesomeness. The only problem I have is the realism, it wasn’t really explained how exactly they fell in love, because lets say I find a stranger in my backyard a couple of times a week for my childhood, I might become friends with him but that sure as hell isn't a reason for me to fall in love with him. We could also ask the same questions the other way, isn't having sex with someone you knew as whilst you were an adult and she was 7 borderline creepy pedophilia? Other than that little creepiness I did enjoy the movie, it was sweet and well scripted.

I love you man - eh, don't have much to say about this one, just your typical chick flick which further proves my point to those annoying people who forget to have a social life just because they have got a significant other. Jason Segel was pretty funny though.

Fast and Furious 4 - Really liked the first one, kinda liked the second one, didn't bother with the 3rd, and the 4th was just meh. I was semi-glad I saw it because of fast-action scenes and good looking people. But upon contemplation I ask why did they just not leave it to rest?

District 9 - I did not know anything about it before going (GenghisCon thing) but I did end up liking it in the end. I liked the mockumentary style, which did enough of foreshadowing to pique your interest but not too much to ruin the flow. I also loved that it wasn’t a generic alien-type movie, it didn't really follow the traditional layout and the aliens just being stuck and the people of earth not quite knowing what to do was an interesting twist. Oh and aliens not landing in the US or the UK, was a nice touch. I also like how we both get a feel for the humans and aliens point of view. It was open to a sequel, which if is made I look forward to seeing.

Harry Potter and the half blood prince - I can't remember who it was but someone dubbed this book as 'Harry potter and the half-explained title' which is exactly what I thought when I got to the end of it. it was a huge mystery and the basis of the movie and then OH BTW the answer gets thrown at you. I would be interested to know if the book is much different (I know there can be a lot of changes from book to movie which makes the movie more confusing) but really I can't be bothered. Otherwise it was oh-kay, but certainly not matched up to J.K's early works or in need of as much rave as it got. Another franchise that needs to be laid to rest.

Watchmen - Had a bit of trouble following the storyline which is probably less to do with my no-prior-knowledge and more to do with the fact when I saw it I was fucking tired. It was pretty good regardless, I loved the angst and cinematography. made me like Jeffery Dean Morgan a little less which wasn't cool.

I did unsuccessfully try to blog as I was going throughout the year, but it was hard because I was busy busy busy. Here is a repost of the other movies I saw.

Avatar - So if you are such a Disney fan as I am, plot-wise Avatar is in no way anything special, but if you are a big cinematography / SFX fan as most people seem to be, you’re going to think it is awesome. Also 3d.
Dark night, the - Good movie. Joker still scares me to shit, but I really liked the story otherwise. I’m not going to attempt detail again. I will however say I was somewhat shocked by the audience reaction when his name was called, it was like simultaneous tears everywhere, and a standing ovation. I think the ovation was great out of respect for a good performance, but then when they started crying I did the whole “What-if?” game and thought, well if he didn’t pass away, would he have still gotten the nomination? Still got the award? Still got the standing ovation? Don’t get me wrong I think it was well worth the award but I do wonder if it was a “pity-vote” for lack of a better explanation. *
Milk - It is a really great movie. I love watching biographical films. (It’s my second favourite to musicals/scifi) But the only problem I have with a lot of the movies based around one person in particular, is instead of having a story, the writer’s fall into somewhat of “dot points” so the story will tell of a childhood, then go through various pivotal moments of their life and then end, I think that because it is non-fiction it does not mean it has to come as a precise re-count.
But Milk was especially great because it seemed so… seem-less. It had a point to it… this is really hard to explain at 3AM in a legible sense, but I guess the way the story is told is just so much more awesome than most of the other movies I’ve seen, because of… structure and other stuff. I’m… going to move on..
Spirit - Speaking of cinematography and light I saw the Spirit on Tuesday. It was fantastic I really like it. I have raved about Frank Miller movie’s before, (I admit, there have been essays) and I liked this one even more. It was the greatest line between a dark/angsty and well for lack of a better word “cheese moments”. But all in all, very good movie, I highly recommend everyone to see and enjoy as much as I did.
Star Trek - Watched Star Trek last night, had no prior information about the series, but I very much liked it and thought JJ did a nice job, also Simon Pegg, yay. Storyline was a little bizarre however. There was also quite a few people who showed up in trekkie uniforms, which was.. strange. There was also a large percentage of ST references on my FB the next morning. Says a lot about the kind of friends I have. XD
Twilight - Ok it wasn’t excessively Plan 9 from out of space level bad, and it didn’t make me want to Swoon for either Edward or Bella.
And as for Bella, why are there so many people looking up to her? She was so weak so incredibly weak, I was in such disbelief.
Not so many times have I cringed through a movie. Maybe it was a drawback from the shots or the bad acting, because many people have said they loved the book and not the movie so much. So I am considering reading the book to see if maybe there’s some magical writing that will put me in a trance. Maybe.
Speaking of shots the one thing I did like about the movie was the cinematography, not the ‘zoom in on intense stare’ kind of shot, but the action shots especially the ones in the forest had beautiful scenery and the lighting was done very well. **
Ugly Truth, The - I went to see a movie with ”greyreviews” last night called The Ugly Truth it is a really good film - well for a chick flick anyway. The main reason I wanted to see it because it had Gerard Butler as the lead character but the storyline ended up being a pretty interesting one anyway, and it was very amusing.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Really looking forward to it, but as anticipate a little too much action/bockbustery crap for my liking, where did friggin’ storytelling go?!? Though watching Hugh Jackman for 2 hours kind of made up for it. :-p (I should be ashamed I know)

* Yes Iknow this is not a real review but i can't be assed.

** I. WAS. WRONG.

I saw Sherlock Holmes for the GenghisCon screening on last Tuesday, there was little turnout (due to most people seeing it I assume) but I enjoyed the movie enough to be worth the effort. I had never read a Sherlock Holmes story but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the script was done very well and Robert Downey did excellent acting as Sherlock, and I loved the chemistry between him and Watson, (Jude Law; who I haven't seen in anything other than the robot in AI which slightly creeped me out) although the fan fiction community has already claimed them as their own. Defiantly a will-want-to-see-again type of movie.

The Bucket List - it had an incredibly good cast and a really good idea, but it really fell flat. I was bored for most of it, and the other half I was cringing. Would not recommend.
the Lost Boys 2: the tribe - I adore the prequel made in 1987, it had that awesome 80's vibe, cliché one-liners and the script wasn’t half as bad. 21 years later, someone tried to replicate that feel and failed badly. The acting was terrible, the storyline was bad and they couldn't decide weather to make it a gross slasher or an typical vampire flick. The only Interesting part of the film was to see one of the children in the original as a grown adult, haven't decided if I thought that was awesome or truly sad. Also lols to one of the actors only getting the job because he was the brother of Kiefer Sutherland. When I first spotted it in the video store I wondered why it didn't make it to cinemas or any advertising what so ever, now I don't.

Also saw Twilight: New Moon with the-babybird, Ben and Matthew on Saturday. I knew it was going to be bad and cringe worthy. it was bad and cringe worth and even more predictable than the first. Sparkle sparkle.
