Traditional Thanksgiving travel hassles

We had an enjoyable holiday visit with the in-laws. We got a chance to see our neice Greta, who turned one a couple of weeks ago. She's grown considerably since we last saw her this summer and is now starting to look like she has hair. Since she's so blond, she still doesn't look like she has much hair, but it's an improvement. She's saying a few words and is on the verge of walking.

We also went to see Rent, which I enjoyed more than I expected, and visited the National Museum of the American Indian, which I highly recommend if you're ever in DC.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. Coming home, we got to the airport early for our 3 o'clock flight because Matt was worried about crowds. As it turned out, we needn't have worried. We got to the gate while they were still boarding the previous flight. One of the airline people asked if we wanted on the earlier flight, but as we had checked baggage, we declined. We waited the hour plus until our flight boarded. Once everyone was on board, they announced that due to congestion at Logan, our flight was delayed two hours. They let us off the plane, and Matt and I were able to grab an early dinner.

Fortunately, we didn't have to wait two hours, more like forty-five minutes. The flight itself was fine, but the wait for baggage felt interminable. At last the bags for our flight showed up. But then the conveyor belt stopped without us having got our bags. We went to the office to file a missing luggage claim only to find our bags there. They had come over on the earlier flight. We could have been home hours earlier, and we didn't know.
