The holiday madness has already begun- I saw my first Christmas shopping ad before Halloween. Sigh.
I realized this year feels a lot different from last year. Last year I was all about getting
the goat from Heifer Intl. as my holiday gift. OK, I admit even now I'm entirely entertained and genuinely pleased with the idea of giving a family a goat, but that's me. With the economy being what it is, I'm feeling like a gesture closer to home would be a more fitting place for my attentions.
I've been donating to the
Alameda county food bank here and there for quite some time, but I think I'm going to save up for a bigger donation this holiday. Every $1 donated buys $7 worth of food- and their client base has grown 40% this year, a staggering number. Providing food just feels so much more important this year. If you feel so inclined, it's a good local organization, and even the smallest bit helps.
