cell phone

I just want to buy electronics and have them work.  Period - that's it.  Not too fucking much to ask is it?

Back in the end of February I got a pda/smart phone that I loved.  When it started acting up a few months later, and since I had dropped it a few times, I assumed I broke it, paid the $50 deductible for the insurance and got a new one sent to me mid-June.  Easy-peasy.

Last week the new one started acting up. I liked the phone a lot - but honestly I haven't any faith in it anymore.  I can't believe I've been THAT rough on it.  I've had mobile phones since my first car phone in 1990 and with the exception of a phone I dropped in a cooler of beer, I've never broken one.  Doesn't everyone drop a phone occasionally?  They shouldn't be so fragile.  I think this model is just crappy.  So today I've spent the last few hours on the phone with the cell phone insurance company ($100) and Verizon (cancellation of policy or replacement phone between $100 & $250).   I could pay the contract cancellation fee and go to another provider, say Sprint or AT&T, for a cost of around $350 - but the monthly service fees seem to be lower and I'll make some of the cost up over time.

The Verizon customer service girl asked me to give her 24 hours to come up with a better solution to keep Verizon as my provider.  Guess I can do that.

Still love my pretty pretty green laptop though.  I've barely gotten out of bed today!

Between TiVo and this laptop, I have lots of reason to stay in bed.

(Hey!  this is a family-friendly website!  Get your mind out of the gutter!)

Speaking of getting out of bed, last night Will & I had two little kids climb into bed with us at midnight during a most ferocious storm.  We get quite a few strong thunderstorms here, each one dropping one or two large branches or small trees within sight of my house.  Nine year old Liam is pretty passive about storms, finally at the age where he finds them more interesting than scary.  Shea loves them, and usually wants to be out in them.  Five year old Erin still hides her head and covers her ears.   A 32 pound girl takes up approximately the same amount of space in a king-sized bed as a 250 pound Mastiff.   At 1am I finally created a pallet on the floor next to our bed with pillows and a sleeping bag so we could all get some sleep.

Another huge storm is moving in right now.  Will went out running, hoping to beat the rain.  I have to keep looking out the window.  If it starts raining I'll go fetch him.  No - if it starts pouring I'll fetch him.  Otherwise it'll make him run faster.

This weekend I'm going to Toronto, Niagara & Buffalo to visit some girlfriends.  Will and I went to all three cities back in December of 1994 in a very memorable trip.  My grandparents lived in Toronto.  My grandfather had a minor stroke.  He and my grandmother flew to my parents house while Will & I flew up there to pack up his apartment and drive it all home in a 1980 Delta 88 that overheated somewhere in the West Virginia mountains.    Looking back it was probably a horrific trip, but I remember it as being kind of fun.

Man I'm all over the place today.  Thunder has started rumbling but still no rain.  Wind is picking up too.  Run Will, Run!
