So, Faster.  Unexpectedly good, Dwayne Johnson!  I went to watch it with a friend, because we wanted some stress relief in the form of senseless violence, and bam!  Acting!  Guns!  Morals!  Boys with convincingly watery eyes(SOMETIMES EVEN CRYING)!  So we didn't get what we came for, but I'm going to say that it was better. I'd like to watch movies without knowing their basic premise more often (seriously, I had not even seen previews for this), but it probably won't be as satisfying, and then it would pretty much be a waste of money.  I was pleasantly surprised by both Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen is REALLY HOT.

Seriously, look at this guy cleaning his guns in his boxers... Watch out.  You may never look at yoga the same.  Ungh.  (SPOILER: he does yoga.  sure, it's probably a stunt double. but a bead of sweat rolls down his nose.  Listen to me, people.  He gets married to his girlfriend and immediately afterwards they go to this junkyard and shoot things.  I'm not often attracted to women, but the hiked-up wedding dress and the boots and the gun, whoa).  Sure, there were no strong main female characters, but really, Hollywood, that's not new.  It's disappointing as hell, but I'm just going to wait for Sucker Punch.

Okay, WWII bombers, and dragons, and schoolgirls fighting giant samurai (like the one in Brazil!!!)?  Jena Malone, one of the main characters(?), was at Comic-Con this year, and after hearing her talk about dead-lifting 300 pounds, and reloading guns while being lowered from a crane... I'm in.  This is the kind of outrageous that I like to see.  And even though I adore films with male main characters (because I adore said male main characters), it's kind of sad that Hollywood is so biased against films with female protagonists.  There are always female characters, but sometimes it's so blatantly just for sex appeal that it's kind of off-putting.  Of course, that's my opinion - a biased one, since I'd like to see the muscly, sweaty action men making out with each other, instead.

ramble, movies
