On thinking.

I wrote this in my paper journal last night and felt it was worth posting here.

People think too much. It's not just me, though I am the chief of sinners in this area to be sure. Youth has an impulsive curiosity that is lost as cognitive ability becomes more apparent toward adulthood. A baby chooses to learn to walk. He constantly falls down, bumps his head, busts his lip, cries, throws a tantrum--then he sees something shiny or someone he wants and gets up and tries again, determined to reach his goal, forgetting past failures, though he bears the scars and bruises. He never says, "screw this, I'll just crawl the rest of my life."
Why is it, at 30, we'll say that? Why do we overthink things while still safely in our box, creating fear before we ever take that first step? Where's that impulsive curiosity now? Why does taking risks seem so much more dangerous now than when we were jumping out of swings, knocking the wind out of our lungs?
