We were so freaked out and overly tired the first night that we decided to go for a stroll, but just walked around the block because we couldn't get up the stones to actually cross the street. While the big cities seemed scary, getting out into the country was absolutely terrifying. Nothing like driving up a mountain that has uh...maybe 1/2-2 lanes and the entire way up is hair-pin turns the entire way and you can never see farther than 10 feet ahead of you. That's scary and all but then you add in a driver who but doesn't believe or understand the concept of downshifting **EVER*** so it takes MINUTES to pass other cars and so he's playing chicken with all the other traffic coming straight at us and the drop off the mountain is hundreds of feet and no guard rail.
It was hilarious only because I've never been that scared in a car, ever .

In Egypt they also drive with one hand on the horn....and at night, they don't leave their lights on...they turn them on and off. I think they are trying to save bulb life!
Not sure if I did any mountain roads like that. I think I'd remember!
I slept through my longest road trip in India.
Though my car had its windshield shot at on India too. Driver said it was bandits. Scared the crap out of me!
Hope you post your travelog!
