Yeah, so I'm pretty much on facebook now, but that is really not conducive to lengthy posts. Not that this will be too lenghty...or maybe it will. Let's see where the wind blows, shall we? Also, posting things on facebook feels like announcing it to the world and sometimes I just want to announce things to my esoteric group (and you know who you are) of friends on lj.
Most of you already know this, but MIKE GOT A PART-TIME JOB!!! This is excellent timing since we are flat fucking broke! I thought I had reached new levels of financial despair when he first lost his job, but that was when we still had unemployment, the surprisingly frequent and well-timed gifts from my parents (who are now broke due to medical expenses, but we don't need health care reform, right?), and one fewer baby. Like I said, this is really good timing. I did the math, and even if he only works 16 hours a week, that will cover our grocery bill and what a relief that can be! He starts tomorrow with some training. He's going to be working at a local winery as a clerk in their tasting room in South Haven. He might have to work sometimes at the main area in Paw Paw, but, get this, they'll pay him mileage! That is something I didn't expect. It's $10/hr. which is pretty darn high for schlepping goods at a counter and apparently he can earn tips, too. So, next time you go wine tasting, tip that dude or dudette at the counter who cracked open the bottle of ice wine for you to taste and think of Mike and me and, above all, THINK OF THE CHILDREN. Okay, so I'm tired and melodramatic, but I suppose that's allowed sometimes.
We'll have a better idea of scheduling after tomorrow's meeting/training thing. Weekends are fine, since I know all of the weekends I'll be working this school year and will be able to make advance arrangements. I'm a little concerned about the weekend of Matt's wedding. Maybe if he tells them tomorrow that we have plans to be out of town that weekend they'll schedule around that. I mean, the plans were made before the job was offered, so most people would be reasonable about that, right? Anyway. He'll have to work some weekdays, and that's going to be a little more troublesome since they are only open till 5 or 6 in the evening. We'll need to find someone or somewhere to watch the kids on those days. With any luck, they can give him specific days instead of a rotating weekly schedule so we can come up with childcare arrangements. I have an orchestra parent who does babysitting for teachers so that could be an option, or we'll have to look at kidzone again. I think they have flexible scheduling. We'll see.
I am pretty much ready to go back to work, but I have an extra week of summer. (I know, poor me) I'm feeling discombobulated because of it, because usually this would be my last weekend of summer. So, that's where my natural calendar is set. I'm all restless and irritable and feel like I need a break from the Suzy Homemaker routine.
That's it for now.
