It's been a very good weekend.

First of all, thanks to everyone who posted notes of congratulations at my last entry. Writing's a solitary pursuit, and knowing that there's a community of supportive friends out there makes it less lonely.

So!

Writing group yesterday. Due to the lousy weather, we weren't able to drive out to Grinnell, Jewel of the Prairie, to meet charmingbillie, so we stayed at my house and drank coffee and ate biscuits, which is the food I happened to have on hand. Read and critted more of velourmane's terrific literary fantasy (for lack of a better term!) novel. Oohed and ahhhed over Lisa's contributor's copy of Cicada. Read a strong story by Chris, and the group critted my third and fourth chapters. Wonderful comments. Then had dinner with some dear friends who let me talk their ears off about the next book and the third book and my plans for the magic and the dragons, and who figured out how to fix the plot snarl I hit halfway through the books. Wow, seriously. Being able to talk through ideas helps me articulate them in a way that writing them down as notes doesn't allow.

Today, inspired by the terrific advice from writer friends, I wrote-wrote-wrote until 3:30, when I broke 37K and needed a break. Theo and I went outside and shoveled the driveway together. My fingers are still cold.

Now I am drinking peppermint hot cocoa while a cat sleeps on my legs. Theo's reading; Maud's folding origami. For me, more writing until dinner!

Cheers!
