All you business majors have corrupted me.
I was flipping through the HKN resume book today and instinctively making fun of critiquing everyone's resumes. :( Some were really bad though, and these are supposedly people who went through EE333T, where the first thing they teach you is how to write a resume. The more egregious examples I saw:
- one resume had about a 0.2-inch margin, to the point where some of the words in his resume got cut out by the resume book binding.
- one resume put down only one line of description for each job experience the person had
- one resume had zero white space; the whole thing was single-spaced from top to bottom.
- one resume had way too much white space; there was maybe half a page of text and plenty of margins/triple-spacing/etc to fill up the page.
- this one wasn't bad as much as amusing: the only things bolded on the resume were the person's name, section headings, and his GPA. It was very "PLEASE LOOK AT MY SHINY GPA KTHNX!"
P.S. The TA went over my EE333T paper today and didn't slam me for wordiness as much as I expected him to. I was freaking out last night because MS Word gave me a readability score in the low-to-mid-20's. :/
