This is just a little thing, but little things can be as good in their way, especially for a bookworm with a yen for old, fat, hardback tomes.

Basically, it keeps them open and your hands free, and with no or minimal damage to the spine (big fat paperbacks, not so much but nothing will keep them open any better, will it?). I've actually got several of them in silky fabric too - one with penguins, one with butterflies, and one with those muddledy but cheerful so beloved in cheap fabric. But the leather one I've had for nigh on twenty years now, and it's still in good nick...
