thisbluespirit asked How about Primeval/Doctor Who - Doctor of your choice + Lester, "That's not a dinosaur, that's an alien." And yes, well... this happened :)

That's Not A Dinosaur...
"...That's an alien."

Lester turned a jaded and less than impressed stare on the latest 'scientist' foisted on him by a government who clearly had even less stringent standards in this field of expertise that the Anomaly Research Centre, if that were possible.

"Really. I could have sworn Mr Temple who is, god help me, one of my senior advisers showed me a picture of it in his enormous reference base."

"Yes, it looks like a dinosaur." The Doctor - Doctor Who of precisely What had not been made clear, which Lester couldn't help finding suspicious - agreed with a blinding grin. "But looks, my dear Sir James, can be deceiving. Take me for example."

"Do I have to?" Lester sighed, and put on his best 'humour the genius' face, one he had a lot of practice with these days. The visible reaction from the Doctor's very young, pretty and red-haired Scottish assistant made it clear more practice would be needed. "Very well. After all, aliens are probably no more impossible and presumably less hazardous than prehistoric... whatever they invariably are around here. And do apologise to your friend on my behalf, I am sure the resemblance to whatever giant lizard Mr Temple was talking about is purely coincidental."

"Concurrent evolution," the Doctor said helpfully. "It happens all over the universe, you know." His grin got.. weird. And worrying. "I should know."

"Of course you should." Lester was not about to enquire into that, or the Scottish assistant's smirk. "However, I would like to ask one question."

"Only one? That's unusual in my experience. You're not going to ask if it eats humans, are you?" The Doctor's look of mild concern was almost comical... even if the question was in Lester's opinion all too probable to be funny. "Because I would hate to be the one to put the idea in its head. Humans tend to be bad for the digestion, and an alien with stomach ache - especially one with three stomachs - is even less friendly than a dinosaur with one."

Lester turned to smile politely if unenthusiastically, at the Doctor's guest, while looking as indigestible as possible at the same time. "No, I don't think we need to explore that. I would just like to know, regarding your friend the alien -"

"Not the dinosaur."

"Not - the dinosaur. But why is it wearing a fez?"

"Fezzes are cool!"

"And the bow tie?"

"Also cool."

"Of course, how silly of me... but why," with one raised eyebrow, "is it wearing it there?"

The Doctor thought about it for a moment. "Well, Sir James, if you really need to know, and I don't think you do," he shook his head, "I really don't think you do but if you really do feel you need to know, I can tell you that the reason is simply -"

"Never mind," Lester held up a hand. "It probably makes sense to other aliens."

"Oh it does, I can assure you. And Sir James, something else I probably should mention."

"Oh, must you?"

"No, but I will anyway. Because I know that it looks like a dinosaur to you, and fair enough, you've seen your share of them. But where it comes from, dinosaurs look like -" with that wide, weird grin again, "- you."
