They didn’t like showers.
Merlin didn’t mind them, really. But It detested them. It wanted to sit in a tub filled with the blood of their victims. It wanted to enjoy soaking and relaxing in it. Was that so much to ask for?!
According to Arthur, it was. And so the two three of them came to an agreement after Arthur nearly lost a hand getting Merlin out of the bathtub one night.
Which was why while Arthur was cleaning Merlin in the shower, Merlin was gnawing on some part of him, eager to get clean so they could eat.
It made sure to never leave marks on Arthur while biting him, however. No, that wouldn’t do. Arthur was special, Arthur was different.
“I thought we agreed that there would be no more surprises. We made a rule,” Arthur spoke as he washed Merlin’s hair.
Eyes flickering up from where he was biting the crook of Arthur’s neck, Merlin hummed and broke contact just enough to say, “Rules were made to be broken,” before putting his mouth back on the spot.
“Not when the rules are there to keep us safe,” Arthur reminded, his voice gentle but firm as he tapped Merlin’s shoulder to get him to move.
Merlin growled lightly at that, but stepped back to watch the last of the red swirl down the drain.
It was sad to see the blood go.
“We’re always safe,” Merlin spoke finally as Arthur helped him out of the shower to dry off. “We’re careful.”
Merlin’s eyes met Arthur’s and he couldn’t resist the grin that came to his face when he saw the flecks of black among the blue.
Mine mine mine.
“Not after the last surprise. Remember? The police officer?” Arthur reminded him as he started to towel him off.
Ah. Right.
“He wasn’t even that good,” Merlin growled in response, looking away. They’d nearly been caught that day, everything had almost been ruined.
“But we fixed it,” Merlin reminded Arthur after a moment or two, looking at Arthur as he went to dry his hair. All it had taken was a simple spell, a few words, and it was like nothing had happened.
It loved using Merlin’s magic.
“You know as well as I do that we can’t do that every time someone sees,” Arthur said, his voice gentle and firm still. “Others will know eventually. The Druids, especially.”
Merlin growled from under the towel at the mention of the Druids. If they found Merlin, it would be banished, it would have to leave, it would die.
It hated the Druids.
Removing the towel, Arthur’s face appeared in front of Merlin’s and their eyes locked. “No more surprises. Promise me.”
A light growl escaped Merlin’s throat and Arthur’s gaze became stronger. “Promise me.”
Closing his eyes, Merlin and it had a quick argument before his eyes opened again and met Arthur’s. “We promise.”
Arthur gave Merlin a smile before leaning in and kissing Merlin’s lips, groaning in pleasure as Merlin’s teeth sank into his bottom lip. Pulling away, Arthur chuckled. “Save your appetite for dinner. Get dressed and I’ll see you in the kitchen.”
Merlin nodded in agreement and walked out of the bathroom, going to the bedroom to get dressed as Arthur dried himself off.
They could almost taste the sweet fresh raw meat from their kill that awaited them in the kitchen.
This was going to be a great dinner.
