On the Joy of Dance and the Agony of Getting up the Next Day

Oct 21, 2007 10:00

I did not go to Northfield on Friday night. I was go-ed out for the week. I went to the Y and swam. That felt good, and home by 10.

This made it easy for me to get up early to go to Lino Lakes to give flu shots. While all the folks there were nice, and I wasn't worked to death, due to there being a sparse turnout, it is a whole lot of trouble for 4 hours pay. I'm going to have to ask what are the benefits of being "lead" nurse, as that means I am responsible for picking up the serum.

Last night, we answered a call for dancers at the cd release party at Kieran's. Brian Miller and Nora (forget last name), were doing the releasing, and they originally were going to do that in the back room, but it seems to have gotten double-booked. There was no set meeting time, and when I got there, I thought I was the first. I saw an acquaintance at the front table, and eventually took over that table when the erstwhile lessees of said table moved outside. That meant we had free-reign to move them to dance in front of the stage. There were ceili dances and set dances; Danielle and Paul got up for their respective solos. D was the star, though. She has developed a style which has elements of séan nos, but obviously keeps a lot of her standard step dancing steps.

There was an Irishman who also got up with a friend, who had been pushing him to dance. He had been an award-winning dancer when he was 13, but it seems he had walked away from that. He is interested in our little dance community, and I hope he follows up.

It was after 1:30 when I got home. I'm too old for t'at.

Now, I will drive to Hugo, because I didn't get enough travel yesterday. I get to visit kittens, though! There will be bodywork exchange. Life will be good.
