"Crackpot: The Obsessions of John Waters" by John Waters

Title: Crackpot: The Obsessions of John Waters
Author: John Waters
My Grade: B

Director John Waters is a kooky guy. I can't say I'm a huge fan of his movies, they're a bit too weird for me. But I think the man is hilarious and I'd read anything he has to say. I mean, no one appreciates the tacky, ironic, sleazy, and campy better than he does. This book is a series of biographical essays (some fiction some non-fiction) about all the things he loves and hates. He declares iceberg lettuce the "polyester of greens", and on his top ten list on how to become famous, #9 is "Kill somebody" while #10 is "Die". Oh, how true that is. He also mentions Charles Manson... a lot. This book was originally published in 1987, with some essays dating back all the way to 1983, but they hold up pretty well. It’s definatly a must read if you admire Waters’ sense of humor.
