It was not the happiest place in the world at all. It was a place where everybody hated to be since they were kids. Maybe people hate this place because it gives you pain or because it stores blood, medication or even dead people. With the high, plain white wall all over the room, injections and disinfections everywhere. In one room, there was an unhealthy, weak person lying on his lonely wheel bed. He was in the hospital, waiting faithfully to get well soon or at least that his condition wouldn’t got more and more complicated. He had this illness twice already and this time the doctors are not sure if it will return soon again or if they should just cure it for now.
The patient looked at the windows in his hospital room and smiled a little bit. “He will be here soon.” He talked to himself before looking at the origami cranes by the table. There were still not enough of them for the legendary thousand cranes. The Japanese legend says that if someone did a thousand of these origami cranes, they had the ability to cure.
The unhealthy person’s name is Aiba Masaki. He is twenty-eight years old, lovable a lot. Almost all patients in the hospital like him, especially the children. He likes animals a lot, his dream is to own his own small puppy but with his bad heath he can never raise one alone at his own home. He didn't want to depend on his family or friends to take care of his own pet so his dream was still a dream until he will finally get rid of the illness that he had. His illness is serious since it is affecting his breathing activity. His lungs were having little holes that let his breathing air go out from his lungs. It made his chest go bulgy and disabled him to get the right amount of air to live. It was all caused by the holes and the lack of pressure to make the lung big and small while breathing. This illness was, with a medical term, called 'Pneumothorax'.
'Pneumothorax' attacked him now for the second time. The doctors didn't know the real reason behind it. They assumed it was caused by exhaustion due to a lot of working. He was a preschool teacher in the morning, children need a lot of attention and he has to be patient with them. That is because small kids are very curious and want to know a lot of stuff and that quickly. In the evenings he worked a part job as a delivery boy in a ramen restaurant, so he used his bicycle to deliver the orders. Now the doctors and his boyfriend have forbidden him from doing this job.
Yes, he has a boyfriend, he is gay but his boyfriend is more like a bisexual. His boyfriend's name was Sakurai Sho, he was also working with him in the same preschool. The fate made them met there. They later became closer to each other when they found out that there is a small girl from Sho's class in love with a small boy from Aiba's class. The funny thing was that both the girl’s and the boy’s names were 'Haru' which means spring and it fits for a girl and for a boy. This was also fate for these little lovers. Every day the boy Haru was sneaking from Aiba's classroom in the nap time to go and sleep near his lover Haru from Sho's class.
But one day both of them disappeared from preschool. It was Sho's and Aiba's responsibility to look after them. After a long search which took at least two hours, both teachers found the small couple in the park playing happily, creating some paper flies. From that day Sho and Aiba became closer to each other until that day when Aiba realized that he can't live without Sho anymore, that he wanted him as his boyfriend and was brave enough to confess to Sho after the school. Fortunately Sho had the same feelings towards Aiba but he was a little afraid to confess at first and since that day they were a couple.
“Masaki, I missed you a lot.” The sentence cut the trail of memories that Aiba was having. It was his lover, Sakurai Sho who just came back from his job. Aiba is on a long vacation now; he will have a surgery tomorrow because of his lungs. The doctors wanted to make it as soon as possible. Aiba collapsed yesterday after complaining about pain in his chest. Sho found out that he was really ill and had a high fever. It was the night and he rushed to the hospital immediately. He was afraid that he will lose his Masaki and that he will never see him again. The doctors knew his illness history, gave him the medical care for his 'Pneumothorax' and asked Sho about his family so that they would sign for the operation.
Aiba only had his brother after his parents died long time ago but he was traveling with his wife outside Japan at the moment so Sho was the only family that Aiba had right now. But he was only the 'boyfriend' and this information the pair didn't want to tell it so easily to the doctors. That is why Sho only introduced himself as his 'friend'. This made the doctors wait for Aiba himself to wake up later and sign on the papers.
Sho was hurt from what happened just now. He realized that they can't be a real couple in this country or even a married couple so simply because they both were males and Japan doesn't support gay marriage while some other countries do. Sho's mind worked quickly, he wanted to do something about that and also to make both of them happy before Aiba's surgery. The origami crane was helpful as the Japanese culture said but he wanted to give another thing to his lover.
Before he came to his unhealthy boyfriend he visited the doctor that was in charge of Aiba's condition and asked him if it’s okay to take Aiba out today for only one hour. He said he will return him back without making Aiba tired or even walk because he will rent a wheel chair from the hospital until they return. The doctor, after a lot of thinking, agreed and made Sho the responsible if anything happens to Aiba before the operation.
“I missed you also Sho-chan. Where were you just now? The job finished three hours ago already.” Aiba pouted his cute lips while looking at his lover in front of him; he just missed him that much.
“I am sorry baby; I had some other work to do before I came here.” Sho planted a soft and lovely kiss on the unhealthy man's pouting lips. Aiba took Sho's lips stronger and deepened the kiss even more.
“Ah ah, you missed me that much? How cute is that! Be careful because with this sweetness, I could eat you up now and here.” Sho teased Aiba and got even closer to him. He sat near his lover on the bed but he didn't want to tease him a lot. “But baby... remember what the doctor said about your breathing... We can't kiss like that.” Sho scolded his unhealthy boyfriend.
“Stop it Sho-chan.” Aiba said shyly and hid his face under his pillow.
“Then you stop being that sweet and cute.” Sho said while taking off the pillow from Aiba’s face. “And don't you ever hide your cute shy face because I love seeing it.” Sho didn't stop his teasing.
“Okay okay... You won Sho-chan... Just stop teasing me while I am ill.” Aiba tried his best to not pout but he couldn't help it but to pout even more.
“Hai my lovely...” Sho got closer to Aiba's ear and whispered, “...boyfriend.” Aiba smiled wildly and enjoyed the closeness from both of them.
“Before I forget, I wanted to take you out before your surgery. We will go to a place which I hope you will like it.” Sho kissed the other’s forehead and held his hands.
“Now?” Aiba asked surprised.
“Yea, I have the doctor’s permission.” Sho answered and helped Aiba sit on the wheel chair before he pushed it out of the hospital. It was a nice day not too cold and the sun was up highly.
“To where?” Aiba asked this question countless times while they rode the bus to where they were going. The place wasn't that far, just fifteen minutes by bus from the hospital. When they arrived to where Sho wanted to, Aiba opened his eyes widely and looked around him. He was in a clover filed, the three leaf clovers were all over the place and the flowers of it were really nice looking.
“Oh my god Sho, this place is a magical one.” Aiba commented while Sho prepared the camera to take a picture of him and Aiba together.
“Yes it is. Because of that, I wanted you to see it before your surgery sweetie.” Sho ran to sit beside his lover on the clovers while Aiba was still in his wheel chair, to be in the picture that the camera will take automatically.
The couple had a really nice time there. The weather was really helping and the closeness of them was really warm.
“I have a surprise for you Masaki.” Sho rose up while saying this. Aiba looked at him and asked carefully. “A surprise? Something else than this beautiful place?” Aiba asked still looking at Sho.
“Yes.” Sho took out a small box with some holes in it. It was behind a tree there and he came running to Aiba, handing it to him. “Open it.” The box was moving and there was a little voice coming out from it. The unhealthy man opened the box and saw the surprise. It was a really happy surprise for him.
“Oh my god, how cute!” Aiba looked at the sleepy tiny puppy inside that box with his lovely cute eyes. “It is a puppy... Oh my god, is this for me??” Aiba looked to Sho.
“Of course, you can name him.” Sho sat near Aiba immediately and looked at the small puppy inside the box.
“Since you gave it to me here, I will call him Clover.” Aiba smiled to the little puppy and caressed his chin. “But... how will I raise it alone?” He asked with a sad voice. “I can't do that.”
“But there will be someone else in your apartment soon.” Sho said in a tricky voice.
“You mean Clover? I know but still I am alone with him in the apartment.” Aiba looked really sad. He wants to accept the dog but he was still not sure if he could raise him alone and if he would be okay after his surgery tomorrow.
“No not the dog, someone called Sakurai Sho. May I live together with you from now on?” Aiba needed some time to understand Sho's sentence but when he understood what Sho's meant, he almost hurt the puppy in the box with the tight hug that he gave to Sho. “Oh my god, are you serious Sho?” He asked.
“Yes I am serious. Would you marry me Aiba Masaki?” Sho proposed finally.
“Yes I want.” Aiba accepted while having some tears inside his eyes.
“No crying Masaki or the doctor will scold me.” Sho wiped Aiba's teary eyes and kissed his lips softly and quickly.
“Un.” He nodded while wiping his eyes more.
“Ahh... and look what I found, a four leaf clover.” Sho pointed to the four leaf clover and picked it up. “This will give you luck for your surgery. Take it with you. According to tradition, finding a four leaf clover will give the good luck to their finders. Each leaf represents something special: the first is for hope, the second is for faith, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.” Sho gave it to Aiba.
“And to our marriage also even when if it is not official.” Aiba said opening his arms widely to hug him a little bit before they took little Clover and the four leaf clover and went back to the hospital. It was the best date that Aiba had ever had.
