on living under a rock for a month

I want to appologize to my Otakon Fashion Show models for dropping off the face of the earth after the con.  I had said I was going to host a photoshoot/ sleep over/ teaparty, and I have so far said nada about it.

That said, I am still intrested, I have no idea what time or date would work (for me nearly any), or if it's still feasable.  But, Kara, Mary, Angel, Aisha, please both forgive me and let me know either in comments or some form of E-lec-tron-ic mail what you think.

I think the most obvious reason, that after two months of work, and a very hectic weekend, I got a bit burnt out.  lol  I didn't want to think about planning or look at a sewing machine for quite a long long time.

Another one was that I admit I felt a bit dissapointed.  I at the time was really happy with my collection, and got a great response at the con.  I was giving out tons of cards, people were coming up to me and telling me that they loved my designs, that they were intrested in commissioning something from me. ect.

Compartivly the online response was underwhelming at best.  For one I hadn't made the effort or hadn't had time to get any good photos of my darling models in the peices, or even of my own outifts; and the ones that were posted by others I thought didn't do them justice.  The only post I saw were people really commented on the show, alot of the comments were critical, expressing that some of the outfits looked amatureish, unfinished, and made of poor choices of fabric.  Additionally I only got one e-mail expressing an intrest in a commission, and the girl never got back to me after the first few vollys (a common occurance).  Looking over the dresses I also decided that all of them except Kara's dress needed to be reworked, either with some new details, the waists raised, and even a whole new underskirt made.  It was alot of additional work to consider when it appeared that I had already put in alot of time and a nice amount of money into it for very little return.

The other reasons I feel kinda silly admiting to.  I've been having a bit of a lack of funds recently, and if I wanted to host a teaparty at my parents house I want to purcase the food and stuff.  Also I have a tendency to feel... something like self concious asking people to come to my house.  It's in the boonies and not easy to get to.

Anyway whining aside, I've regrouped and would love to have you girls visit me, eat tastey food, prance around in pretty dresses, and just generally hang out.

Part of my regrouping is a decision to "rebrand" myself, as a BRAND!! XD

My success with the custom printed "Victorian Pudding" fabric now makes in possible for me to create dresses with (hopefully) coveted prints.  Also wonderfully my friends, parents, and grandparents are all chipping in to buy me an embroidery machine (yay!).

My plan is similar to what I was doing with the "Keys to the Kingdom" skirts.  Create a design, Take preorders of  a limited number of dresses/jsks/or skirts custom made to the orderer's measurements.  Except this time I'm going to do it with a webpage rather then just on LJ.  Additionally I'll also have tutorials (makeup, hair, cooking, crafting) and sometimes sell original peices ("couture").  Seeing all the hoopla over the BtssB store in SanFran made it very clear to me that brand, prints, limited numbers and WEB PRESENCE is key.

Also having my orders regulated and not all over the place will allow to me to not only work faster and more economically, it will allow me to make the types of pretty personal touches to packaging and service that lolitas love!

So as a bit of a teaser here is my sketch for the promo image for the Victorian Puddings Jsk (I need a fancier name).

It's now inked (blech I hate inking, I'm not very good at it) and I'm ready to color it.

And here is a resized version of the hem print

All of this was sketched out, colored with prismacolor and zig markers and then scanned and edited.  It's a strange and original tecnique but I really like how it turned out.
