Notes: #7 - Ghosts. 24 minutes.

“Once upon a time, there was a little boy who wanted to see a ghost. He thought it’d be cool, y’know? To see a real live dead person. Some of the other kids talked about hearin’ weird things when they were out in th’woods at night, or when they snuck into th’old temple way out on the other side of town, and you know old granny ladies an’ how they talk, and the kid thought that, hell, if these shriveled old bats could see ghosts, then so could he.”

“This kid, he knew somethin’ about ghosts. He wasn’t smart at all, but he could read a little, so he’d gone into town and got a book from th’school that was full of ghost stories, stories about ghosts tellin' their great-grandkids where t'find th'treasure, an’ ghosts who got all bloodily killed comin’ back t’get all kinds of gross an' scary revenge on th’people who killed ‘em, or betrayed 'em, or whatever... whole bunch of stories, and this kid, he read ‘em all. Read ‘em until that book fell apart.”

“Now, this kid really wanted to see a ghost, like I said. An’ it just so happened that there were a couple graves near this kid’s house. Years an’ years before, there’d been this guy, and this girl, an’ they fell in love, but the guy was already married, an’ that kinda thing never ends well. So the guy and the girl, they killed themselves, an’ th’guy’s wife planted ‘em in the yard, so she could keep the guy near. She kinda messed up th’girl’s body first, though... did a whole buncha stuff to it, cut on it an’ cursed it and that kinda thing, an’ she buried the guy on one side of th’house, and th’girl on th’other, ‘cause he was her husband, after all, an’ she didn’t like the idea of them bein’ together, even in death. An' the kid knew that separatin' lovers, an' messin' up the body, and all of that should have had his house crawlin' with ghosts. But it wasn't.”

“So this kid, he gets this idea into his head that th’reason his house isn’t already full of ghosts is because th’ghosts are sad. No, it’s not, it's fucking stupid, but so was th’kid, so quit interruptin’ and lemme tell th’story, okay? Okay. Anyway... where was I? Oh, right, ‘cause the ghosts were sad. He figures that maybe they want to be together, an’ if he does them a favor, they’ll show up and, I dunno, maybe thank him or somethin’. So he waits until everyone in the house is asleep, and he goes out an’ gets a shovel an’ he digs up th’girl an’ he digs up th’guy an’ he puts ‘em together in the same hole and says some shit... I don’t know, some nice shit! ‘Rest in peace’, that kinda thing, how would I know? And he buries ‘em and makes the grave look nice as he can, and then he sits down an’ waits.”

“What do you think happened? Kid’s mom wakes up th’next morning an’ finds out that th’dumb brat spent th’night diggin’ holes in th’yard, and pulled up a bunch of her flowers, too, an’ almost set himself on fire burnin’ a huge pile of incense, so she smacked some sense into him. So that’s it. That’s how I know there’s no such thing as ghosts, so quit listenin’ to ‘em and go to sleep. They’re not real, an’ if they are, I’ve got a couple things to say to ‘em first, so you’ll just have t’get in line.”

“...Told ‘em I missed ‘em and I loved ‘em, okay? You happy? Good. Then sleep.”
