Notes: This is late but I've been sick! XD Honestly, RL has been kicking my ass lately. This isn't my best but I had fun writing it. Time: 45 minutes and about 10 minutes of fussing with. It could still use help but I'm out of time! Please let me know if there's something that needs fixing.
Feng wiped down the already clean bar with forceful strokes. Those four travelers who showed up two days ago were still here. They were starting to bug him.
"Another round for them," Bao said with a smile while she leaned on the bar.
Feng was angry, Bao was acting… strange. "What are you doing?"
She flipped her hair over one shoulder. "What do you mean?"
"You're…" beautiful he wanted to say but instead, he said, "acting ridiculous. Flirting with that redhead and that guy with the monocle. Not to mention cooing over that kid."
She blinked at him and then frowned. "What are you talking about? I'm a server. I'm doing my job."
"I'd say you're serving, all right."
"What's your problem? We get travelers in here all the time."
"Not travelers so…" He bit his tongue. They weren't handsome, charming or gracious. He cleared his throat and continued, "… so dangerous."
"Dangerous?" She giggled and then turned to look at the four in the corner table.
Feng saw the travelers were fighting like children again. All except that guy with the monocle, he just looked embarrassed.
Bao turned her withering gaze back to Feng. "Do you really think those guys are dangerous? Those guys?"
"Yeah. I do."
She narrowed her gaze. "Are you jealous?"
His mouth fell open and then he sputtered out, much louder than he meant to "What?! "
The table of four fell silent and all but the monk were staring at him.
The redhead pushed his chair away from the table and crossed an ankle over his knee. "Need any help with our drinks, honey?"
Bao shook her head and smiled. "Thank you, Gojyo, but no. I'll be right there."
Gojyo? She knew his name? He remained silent, feeling his face heat and fighting his rising irritation. After filling three classes with beer, Feng placed them on Bao's serving tray.
She picked up the tray.
"Hey," he said softly.
Bao stared at him.
"I have Sunday off. Want to do something?" Feng felt like his ears were burning.
Tipping her head to one side she regarded him with an implacable gaze. "I'll think about it."
He watched her return to the table of four. The redhead, with a slimy smile on his face, spoke to Bao too softly for Feng to hear. Bao grinned at the redhead and nodded. Feng felt helpless and desperate. Did Bao really like that guy?
The man with the monocle observed their exchange and moved his gaze to Feng. There was something about the monocle guy that made Feng shiver. Then, the guy smiled. Feng had never seen a scarier smile.
"Well," monocle man began, "we have a long day tomorrow - I believe we should all turn in."
Almost as one, they drained their drinks, stood up, and walked towards the exit.
The redhead - good grief, the guy was tall! - gave one last look at Bao and then winked. "See ya, honey."
"Bye! Good luck on your journey!"
When the tavern door shut, Feng sighed with relief.
Boa felt good, tonight had been fun. Goku made her laugh, Hakkai made her feel comfortable, and Gojyo made her feel pretty. The one called Sanzo ignored her but Hakkai explained it was just his way. Sanzo did leave her a decent tip, so for that she was grateful. They were a good bunch of guys.
She leaned against the bar and smiled at Feng. "Another round for them."
Feng frowned at her. "What are you doing?"
She pushed a loose strand of hair behind one ear. "What do you mean?"
"You're…" he glared at the table of travelers and then back at her, "acting ridiculous. Flirting with that redhead and that guy with the monocle. Not to mention cooing over that kid."
She was acting ridiculous? Feng was such a fool sometimes. "What are you talking about? I'm a server. I'm doing my job."
"I'd say you're serving, all right." Feng's tone was sharp and acidic.
"What's your problem?" Bao was losing her temper. "We get travelers in here all the time."
"Not travelers so…" He paused, he seemed a loss for words. "… so dangerous."
"Dangerous?" She laughed and turned to look at the four in the corner table. Goku and Gojyo were fighting over the remaining food and the monk was shouting at them to shut up. Feng really was foolish sometimes. "Do you really think those guys are dangerous? Those guys?"
His gaze was serious. "Yeah. I do."
She furrowed her brow, maybe what Gojyo had said to her was true. "Are you jealous?"
"What?! " he shouted.
Then again, maybe Gojyo was completely wrong. She glowered at Feng, her anger building.
Gojyo pushed his chair away from the table and crossed an ankle over his knee. "Need any help with our drinks, honey?"
Feng glared at Gojyo. Really glared at him.
She stared at Feng. He was angry - he was jealous! She smiled at her customers. "Thank you, Gojyo, but no. I'll be right there."
She picked up her tray loaded with drinks.
"Hey," Feng called to her, his voice quiet.
She paused.
He picked at a loose splinter of wood on the bar. "I have Sunday off. Want to do something?"
Bao had to work to keep the smile from blooming on her face. "I'll think about it."
She returned to the four traveler's table.
"So?" Gojyo asked.
"You were right. He asked me out." Bao set down their drinks.
"Nah." Gojyo shook his head. "Not me. Hakkai's the one who figured it out."
"If you hadn't…" she faltered. How did she tell them if they hadn't come along, Feng would still not see her. She had no words for it, instead she smiled and said, "Thank you."
Then she turned to Hakkai. "You are such a nice man. Thank you very much."
Hakkai smiled at her - a smile that she couldn't read - and then gazed at Gojyo. He cleared his throat and announced, "We have a long day tomorrow - I believe we should all turn in."
Almost as one, they drained their drinks and headed for the door.
Gojyo gave her one last look and then winked. "See ya, honey."
"Bye! Good luck on your journey!" Bao was surprised to realize she was a little sad to see them go. They were such kind and caring people. She glanced at Feng, seeing a look of relief on his features. He really was foolish. Smiling, she turned to wait on another table of customers.
