God, this translation is so terribly sad. You really capture that, and the real sense of loneliness and nothingness in Kouyuu's life ... it's just so sad. I really should be able to come up with a better word than that because it's such a bone-deep sadness that really transcends what the other characters went through as children (in my totally biased opinion). There's just nothing there for him to grasp on to, and he's tied to a bloody tree and is about to die and he doesn't know better than to care. Oh, Kouyuu. No wonder Reishin couldn't resist him. I can't decide whether it's a good or bad thing that he can't remember his time before he became a slave, while knowing he had once been love would surely have been a good thing, how the old couple met their end might have broken him completely ( ... )
