Yay, your back! How was your trip? I hope there are pictures ^_^

God, this translation is so terribly sad. You really capture that, and the real sense of loneliness and nothingness in Kouyuu's life ... it's just so sad. I really should be able to come up with a better word than that because it's such a bone-deep sadness that really transcends what the other characters went through as children (in my totally biased opinion). There's just nothing there for him to grasp on to, and he's tied to a bloody tree and is about to die and he doesn't know better than to care. Oh, Kouyuu. No wonder Reishin couldn't resist him. I can't decide whether it's a good or bad thing that he can't remember his time before he became a slave, while knowing he had once been love would surely have been a good thing, how the old couple met their end might have broken him completely.

I've had so many plot bunnies since reading the summary of the novel, but your translation is really drawing back to the front the ones that really surrounded this scene. The first one involves the mountain god deciding it's time to collect on his sacrifice and Reishin having to race against time to save Kouyuu, while the second was much more political and involved the original village finally managing to trace Kouyuu down after years of terrible destruction due to the sacrifice not being completed, and a whole legal mess results where the issue of who 'owns' Kouyuu.

On a slightly different note, I still have your doujinshi sitting at home, I totally forgot about it. If you can give me a couple of days, I'll put together a little 'inspiration' box to help you a little with the translation project, you can't even begin to imagine how excited I am that your tackling this project. *grin* Is there anything in particular you would like from little New Zealand?

o0o0o inspiration box!!!! (i'm hoping there are reishin/kouyuu fics in there???) i'm taking organic chemistry and another really hard-core neuroscience class, so i'm sure i'll need plenty of perks (reishin/kouyuu fics) <-- (shameless begging, i know -_-lll)

glad you liked the translation :D

(hehe, off to making prompt requests for the fic battle <3)
