Fuck Facebook.

No, I won’t be joining you on Blogspot, Facebook or Twitter, stop sending me invites, you’re wasting valuable time you could be telling other people what you had for lunch or that you’re excited it’s Friday. It’s great that you’re having such a fascinating life, but you know back in the day we used to get by without knowing what you’re doing/ ( Read more... )

Well, well said, and I completely agree. I was beginning to wonder "What the hell is this Twitter thing and is it even worth finding out?"; it would seem that it is not. I hope YouTube doesn't fail, though, because it's one of the only places where I can find and listen to music from old video games without having to actually buy and play the games :P

Thanks, and yeah, I couldn't believe that Twitter was real when I first heard about it, I thought it was a joke, but I should have known that some people just found MySpace a bit overwhelming and wanted something simpler that would limit how much they could do....

With you on YouTube, there is some very rare stuff on that, I enjoy looking up old newcasts and political ads going back to the 60s as well as hard to find bits of music. It would be a loss if the site vanished, but if you have a look at the Slate.com link I posted, it seems no one can seems to work out how to make money from user-generated content sites like YouTube and Facebook.

And I didn't have room for this in my post above, but fuck Hulu also. These dumb fucks actually think that by limiting the service to the US is going to do any good at all? Why? Don't give me that licensing crap, it's the internet, there are no boarders. As a fan of Conan O'Brien's work on The Simpsons I thought I'd check out how he did on the first episdoe of The Tonight Show, but every so- ( ... )

Yeah, it's another example of companies failing at the internet, they're losing money by denying the rest of the world access because there are many morons outside the US who still click on internet ads.

Twitter is the pits. And I mentioned Stephen Fry above, great bloke, very witty and intelligent, but is his Twitter steam worth reading? Fuck no. Stick to blogging people, at least you have the space to say something.

No worries, the best thing about LJ when compared to these other sites is that it's text based rather than camwhore based, so there's an incentive to write rather than upload or tag. Of course there's a lot of morons dribbing shit on this site too, but there is also thought provoking stuff, which there isn't elsewhere.

There have been several people on my friends list who used to post good stuff here moved to Facebook, including people interested in the Singularity, we need to get them back and thinking again here.

Fucking bravo. The sad thing is that Twitter is pissing me off more than Facebook, since Facebook can largely be avoided by not signing up. But not the dirge that gets posted via Loud Twitter, oh no. It screams to me of the same Facebook horseshit of wanting attention, except these twats don't even need to write for the LJ audience, their <140 character crap gets automatically regurgitated for them.

Christ, I can only imagine what a quagmire of irrelevancy Facebook is. I know that soon you'll be able to have Facebook post any new Xbox achievements you get. Seriously, is this supposed to be the epitome of the internet? Wading through irrelevant, syndicated data?

For sure, and I'm getting annoyed with every website you visit begging you to follow them on Twitter. No thanks, and the fact that I'm reading your actual site means there's no reason why I would want to read the truncated 140 character version on fucking Twitter.

It's worse than you think, people add all these retards then ignore their updates because you don't care and everyone is trying to get others to follow them but no one wants to read other people's shit, if there's anything to read at all. We're better off without it as there's zero interesting content. Without sounding vain here, I do like to write interesting content on this journal so others will enjoy reading it. I could have just ranted about how much these sites suck, but thought people would be interested to know that they are failures as business models as well as fail and aids.

Thinking about text messages, I believe Twitter can have a purpose: Short, temporary messages, for instance WIP notices that would clutter a main site. They're there if you're interested in reading them / finding out what's upcoming, but you're not obligated to. Once the real update's been made, this information is ultimately useless clutter, but it's not hampering the reader's experience.

Now there's an appropriate use for Twitter.

But no, instead we get idiots using a glorified text messenger like a blog. The fact that there's so little space available means you CAN'T make posts interesting, even if you wanted to.

I have to disagree there, most text messages are telling or asking one person something, where as most Twitter posts are one person talking about themselves in the hope someone will pay attention. If you want to talk to one person, send a text, if you want to express a thought in detail, get a real blog.

agree with twitter - it's just bullshit.

there's good and bad people everywhere, and facebook is good for organising events/rsvp to parties for lazy people like me. also the photo album feature is good.

There's invite function on MySpace or you could make a post here, and no one needs to post that many photos. It and Twitter serve no purpose but allow people to follow trends with an audience.
