Also, President Bollinger is my hero.

I think this is noteworthy.

The president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, spoke at Columbia today. There were masses of people all over, students, news vans, protesters, spectators, bagpipers (!)... For some absurd reason that I am retrospectively unable to fathom, I went to classes instead of watching the speech broadcast on the Butler Lawn, for which I will evermore be kicking myself. And now I can't find full video coverage of it anywhere online. However, I did find some blog coverage...

In case you're interested, the nicely detailed NY Times blog.

Less "official," more entertaining coverage from the CU student blog.

In any case, I am really proud to be a part of an institution that so strongly supports free speech... while still being able to call Ahmadinejad "a petty and cruel dictator." Yeah First Amendment!

ETA: This is the link to the first part of Bollinger's speech... the same user posted video of the entire event, if you can handle watching all of it. I suggest watching the first two or three parts and then from five on, which is the question-and-answer session, or rather question-and-evasion.

college, politics, the first amendment is awesome!
