I coulda been famous...

I just saw a video on YouTube of a guy lancing his spider bite on the side of his face...

It was being shown on Attack of the Show so I looked it up on YouTube to see the whole thing.

It was supposed to be really gross, and it probably was to a lot of people...

However... Those of you who know about my legs will probably know that I have been living with stuff sort of like that for the last several years, and before that... I had many instances of abcesses that were full of puss and other necrotic flesh.

The last one I had that was really big was from a shot that I got in a spot where I have had several abcesses in the past. It swelled to the size of an orange, and I had to go to the Dr. to get it Lanced... I wish that I had been able to video it, because when the puss finally erupted out of it; the puss literally "shot" out of it in a fountain that went about a foot high.

Only, they didn't really open it wide enough to really clean it out well... If they had, they would have discovered a piece of blue-black-green dead flesh at the very center of it. This was neither the grossest or largest abcess I have had.

The largest was similar to this one (in the same place), only it was about the size of a small watermelon, and the puss shot out of it like a fire-hose... It got all over one of my kitties who was concerned about me while I was cutting it open (I had a scalpel then. If I had a scalpel when I had the last one I would have lanced it myself instead of going to the Dr.'s. I would have been ale to fully open it up to clean it out so that it wouldn't have taken two months to heal). The "firehose" shooting abcess, when I was cutting it open, took a while for me to cut far enough into it for it to open. I did not know how great the pressure was behind the dermal tissues, but I should have guessed by how much the thing hurt. After about a pint-and-a-half of puss came out of it, then the necrosis became to plug the hole in my back. I would have to either squeeze the thing to get it to come out (Shoot out like a bullet is more like it, where it would stick to the wall before falling down onto the floor with a big squishy "plop"), or pull it out with a large pair of forceps that would create another jet of puss when the necrotic tissue would pull free (About fie years after this I would get a really good look into the internal structure of abcesses like this. They have a very "honeycomb" structure to them. Large hexegonal or dodecahedral cavities full of puss with many of the walls made from necrotic tissues if the abcess is advanced enough). That was the lagest, but it was by no means the grossest...

That would be a combination of the ones I used to get from the fucked up heroin in San Francisco in the 1990s. They would create these black abcesses that would have what looked like pink and green spaghetti in them with black-blue-green blobs like meatballs in them. These would usually have to be squeezed pretty hard to get the necrosis out, which you needed to do to keep them from turning into a flesh-eating gaseous gangrene.

The scariest abcess I had was one of these on my leg before they got really bad from the accident (Before the accident by about a year, and on the sid of my leg - the "good" one.. You can still see the scar from it)... It got to be a pretty big abcess that I spent a lot of time with a cloth soaked in hot water packed on it. This will cause any abcess to rise to a head, where it can be drained pretty easily. So, after doing this for about a day, the abces pretty much came open on its own. when it had drained a moderate amount of puss... I could see a strange little ball of black in it (I was used to the black-blue-green necrotic tissues and figured I just needed to pull it out). When I would touch the necrotic tissue it would move around in the wound as if there were a lot more room in there than I could see. I finally got a hold on it, and began to pull. It resisted a lot more than I was used to these things resisting. I could also feel pressure when I pulled on it like it was still attached to something (this worried me a little), and I finally worked up the courage to give it a really hard pull. It began to come out of my leg. It formed a little bump outside of the hole where the abcess had just drained, and I pulled a little more. I could still feel the pressure like it was still attached to something and the pressure was growing stronger. The necrotic flesh was growing longer too (the hole it came out of was about the size of a dime, and the necrosis coming out of it was obviously much larger in diameter than the hole.. So, I kept pulling, the pressure kept growing until it began to feel as it may soon turn to pain. I could feel the pressure moving closer to the tibia in my legs. The necrosis was getting scary long, and it was still coming out of my leg.. It got to be one inch long, then two, then three.. The pressure was now pain, and at around 4 inches I felt it give finally and felt something go "snik" inside my leg. The necrosis began to pull very easily out of my leg now; the pressure was obviously caused by the necrosis still being attached to something inside my leg, and it had broken this connection... But, its length was now causing me a great deal of fear and concern... It was about five to six inches longa dn still coming out of my leg... I throught for a minute that maybe I should put it back...

Obviously, that would have been a dealy idea had I done so. Just like the abcess on my back had made me reallyThat kind of grossed me out a bit). I would get a lot of experience in doing suturing (stiches) in a variety of anatomical locations (My own leg being the first one), and learned how to remove bullets as well during the 80s (This is somthing that I am now having some really upsetting dreams about)... I guess that I have some kind of morbid curiousity about this kind of stuff...

I wonder what would happen if I had videotaped these "Procedures" for posterity? They would definitely be on YouTube by now if I had done so... Just what I would have wanted to be known for: The guy who does amatuer surgery and gross stuff...
