When I started writing for Playback a year ago, I should have asked myself if I needed more deadlines in my life of working full-time in a job that rewarding as it can be, sometimes budges its way into my 5pm to 8am schedule. This is on top of going to college as well.
Even though some are purchased by me (Loretta Lynn in the current issue), I have my pick (of what's left over) of a number of promotional CDs sent in by record companies. A number of them are spectrum-colored cow patties. Others completely take you by surprise with melodies that sway back and forth in my head that I won't tire of anytime soon.
For the July issue, I'm reviewing Miss Kittin -"I Com" and Keane - "Hopes and Fears." The unexpected twist is that I'm enjoying Keane more than Kittin. Good for fans of Coldplay and Travis.
I'll clue you in on this since I've already clued in
gadgetguy.
"Hopes and Fears" is beautiful, gorgeous, exquisite. It makes me cry, actually. So much, that I can't seem to stop for one reason or another.
