Talula... Talula.. don't want to lo..oose you

Twice in a row, at the same time of the evening. We, as in St. Louis, experienced heavy and severe thunderstorms coupled with tornado warnings. Last night it was timed so perfectly that I skipped Yoga when I really really wanted to go now that I have my own rubber strappy thing to hold my extended leg in the air at 45 degrees from my torso.

I was only trying to watch Lord of the Rings (2 Towers: I'm watching them in order so I don't end up lost like Frodo -- that's as far as I am at the moment) and I heard the tornado sirens, again.

I wanted to dismiss them like I did last night and figure on the tornadoes to hit either north or south of me. Tonight my safety was taken for granted. I phoned work-buddy Sue and playfully exclaimed how scared I was (only because her psychotic step-daughter did the same to her the night before). We watched the NBC affiliate together as the colours defining the St. Louis geography were wine coloured in my neck of the woods, Maplewood. I think her area was in orange or candy-apple.

I phoned builder for a few minutes and the lightening, I think, zapped the call. Like a dedicated solder, he phoned back and told him I'd call him back later.

Many things scare me. Nasty weather doesn't fit in with those things. I'd rather tangle with a tornado than stray blackbirds in my closet any day. I'm well aware that Mother Nature can be a real hag at times and whatever happens will happen.

Sue called back with a more detailed weather report. She let me know that tornadoes were on their way to south STL city (I'm in that path). I was watching the rear gutters and since there were leaves stuck in the drain, my back porch looked like a was a waterfall, literally. One more thing to notify the management with.

Sue told me to notice the trees. If the branches were moving in a circular motion, that a twister was quite possible. She wasn't talking about Chubby Checker or ice cream. As I looked out the patio doors, "hmm.. come to think of it, they are moving in circles." There is a fine line between freight and sensibility.

I slipped my bare feet into my New Balances, grabbed my keys and made my way down to the scary BlairWitch storage basement. I'm more scared of this basement than a tornado but I was coping. There are 2 large rooms, my storage space was in the inner room; the same room with the only light bulb working or anything working for that matter. I stayed in the (darker) main room near the door so I can assess the trees outside. There was water pouring into this room from the drainage, luckily for the other storage users, it was on the opposite side of the concrete clad room.

I hate it down there when it's dark. Puddles were everywhere while I watched leaves flying in the air in more circles. It was the longest 15 minutes of my day and that includes my follies at work.

I was so prepared to see something that I even stepped out to see if Mother Nature decided to bake the cake. The only result was a wet head of hair and now that it's dry, I look like Styx's Tommy Shaw circa Paradise Theater. I'm safe though.
