There's something utterly refreshing about hardcore punk shows. Last night, I went to the 930 club with my family to see Thursday! My mom hung out downstairs with my dad actually. Well, my dad watched some of the show and apparently, liked it. My sister said she had a pretty good time. I met up with my friend Alison which was pretty rad. (Steph! I couldn't find you haha. I hope you had an amazing time too)
For me, It was therapy. If you've ever listened to Thursday, you'd undstand why it's "therapy." I want to write more about this, but I'd rather have people ask me questions about it. haha. I'm in a mood to discuss things. Besides, my back hurts at the moment so sitting here typing is kinda ick. Just so everyone knows, I've been a fan of Thursday since June of 2001. I can't believe it's been almost six years. It's funny because there were kids at the show who were still in elementary school when I started listening to Thursday.
I just wanted to tell everyone I went to my first concert of the new year! It was a fucking great show. I even went into the pit and had myself some fun. The best part I think was screaming along to all of the songs. I'm surprised that I still have a voice and everything. (maybe I should still try to be in a hardcore band some day...) Another great thing is that most of the songs played were from Full Collapse which made me soo happy. During "Understanding in a Car Crash" Anthony Green from Circa Survive got on stage and sang with the band. I honestly thought it was just some kid in the crowd who got on stage with the band haha. but after the song, he was introduced to the crowd. I have a feeling my friend Brendan (who is in Circa Surive) was at the show. I tried looking for him after the show was over actually. (yeah Brendan is one of my home boys from the little punk/hardcore scene that existed in Cumberland/Frostburg at one time.)
A very cool moment was during Murdered by Death's set (they're a fantastic band), I was in the balcony of the 930 club looking for my friends and just chilling. I saw Geoff Rickly, the lead singer of Thursday, just standing around watching the band and waiting for a friend (he met up with a friend while i was up in the balcony haha). I looked at him and felt nervous to say hi so I just smiled. He smiled back at me. I don't get intimidated like hardly ever, but I just didn't want to be rude and bother him. I have much respect for him and his band. Their music means a lot to me.
On a side note, I once interviewed Steve from Thursday when I was 17. He was soo nice. We talked about film and songwriting. I remember telling him my interpretations of "Cross out the Eyes." It happened at warped tour back in 2002. It was funny he asked me if I got to see them play and I frowned and said "unfortunately, no because of traffic made me late." It makes me smile to now say that I've finally seen them live!
Okay that's it for now. I'm going to see a good movie tonight (The Science of Sleep) at the local independent theatre that is in Frostburg. Tomorrow, I am moving back to college. Hopefully that will go well.
