Before I start this series, I'll state first and foremost I'm an independent voter for a reason. I can't say I'm either liberal or conservative, just somewhere in between. Although the way these republican candidates are acting lately they would consider me a liberal lol (I watched the last debate and that was a bad idea >.>;;)

These posts will be about equality, the female repro debate, and the freedom of and FROM religion, mostly because I can't understand the other side of the debate.

It's nice to see the country is starting to change in a more positive light to the same sex marriage debate. They're starting to show more people are for it and I think it's because people are starting to realize it's not fair to deny someone their right to marriage. It is truly awesome to see this issue moving in that direction. What pains me is the only argument left (that I have personally seen) against it is a religious belief. We have the freedom of and from religion written in to our constitution so these people are basically using religion as an excuse to be prejudice. And in all honesty if you're going to make marriage a "Christian thing", then technically (according to this logic) I shouldn't be able to marry my fiancée because neither of us are of the Christian faith.

I know not all Christians think this way, and I don't mean to bash the religion in any way (that's not why I'm writing this), there are just the few out there that ruin it for their faith. My sisters church is a great example of how open minded the majority of them are. The few just happen to be people who are in power in our government in some way, shape or form. They use their faith to play political games and get the vote instead of listening to the people whom they represent and in the end. A great example of this is with the New Jersey governor vetoing the passing of a bill that would allow same sex marriage. Both the senate and house of the state passed it but the governor veto'ed it, not because it's going to ruin the state or it was a bad idea (the entire reason behind the power to veto) but because of his belief.

I think I'll just end this part with the following picture because it sums if up pretty well!
