Nice adaptation of one of the more classic comics of my misbegotten youth, but what else would one expect when the studios are willing to hand over a bloody huge budget to a genius director?
I swear, you can see Branagh’s hand in every scene. He’s one of those unique directors that not only gets superior performances from damn near every actor he works with (remember Keanu’s attempt at Don John in Much Ado About Nothing?), but also somehow manages to make most shots look painted. Excellent work on his part.
I also loved seeing the very lovely and talented Rene Russo return to the screen after a six year absence. Admittedly, a small role, but a pivotal one I felt.
Worth paying full price to see, even if you have to shell out the extra bucks for 3D glasses. (Dian and I are on the road today and managed to find a theater that was showing it in the far superior 2D.)
