I've got some of my stuff from the storage space here now, woohoo!!
I mentioned that Nancy's brother is visiting; he's actually moving here. Nancy suggested that maybe he could help me with a little moving for a piddly amount of money, and I said yeah, that would be a great idea, even if we didn't clean out the storage space but instead take only some of the boxes to my apartment. It's a lot of work for one person to do alone, the entire unit, and I can only help with the lighter boxes.
Today, it was much cooler outside. I think the winds from Hurricane Irene came this far inland in a much weaker form and they were the cause of the nice, strong breeze. We got a teeny amount of rain early in the morning. It was a perfect time to do the moving. Nancy's brother came over and asked if I wanted to work on the storage space while it was still nice and cool, and I said WOOHOO and yes. :D
I didn't get a chance to take any pictures, but Nancy and bro can attest to the fact that the boxes were stacked waaaaay high, far above my head. It was the only way my sibs could fit all the boxes that they put in there, in there, but it still made the unit completely unmanageable on my own. He had a much easier time reaching the high boxes than I ever would have, but there was even a point when *he* had to stand on top of one of my tubs of video tapes to reach the highest box. We sorted out the boxes into ones I would like to take home and ones that could stay. The unit is now half empty! He had no problem with filling up the back of his truck, so I wound up taking home 19 boxes, some heavy and some light. Now I can go back later in the week and get the video tapes my friend Robert wants to borrow; I can totally sort through the remaining stuff by myself in order to get into the plastic tubs. The boxes are stacked only so high now.
Before I get into what I brought home, I just wanted to remind that half my belongings are in the unit and half are in my sister's garage. So while we were going through the unit, I kept thinking that some of the things that I wanted were possibly in my sister's garage. I was pleasantly surprised. ^_^
Now, here's what I got! For some reason, I had it in my head that the box with my DVD's in it was HUGE. So when we found a box marked "DVD's," I assumed it was DVD overflow, and that most of my DVD's were in my sister's garage. There wasn't any way all my DVD's fit in a medium-sized box, right? But I was WRONG! That box contained ALL of my DVD's. ^_____________________^ Then, there were two boxes marked "CD's." One I knew did not contain any CD's, because it was far too light, and I remember packing a box near the end that I did not mark because I was running out of time. So instead of crossing out CD's and writing "Miscellaneous and Digital Converter Box," I just left it. But I knew that box had something important in it, so we took it. I definitely need my digital converter box! The other box marked CD's says, "CD's, Super Nintendo games, Pet Supplies." For some reason, I again assumed that the bulk of the box was taken up by the games and the supplies, and this was only CD overflow. Again, I was wrong. ALL of my CD's are in there. \o/ I also found my stereo. ^_^
The unit also contained many boxes of photo albums and binders, which I can't wait to go through. There was another box with a bunch of useful kitchen things. Also brought home a box of board games and other stuff because the box kept getting crushed on top and I didn't want anything in it to get damaged. It doesn't look like anything has been crushed yet, but it was only a matter of time. Also brought home my fan. I thought that box contained some of my power strips/surge protectors, but it turns out there were just extension cords in there.
Now, to try and get my sister to bring my TV down here... it is definitely in her garage. I recognize the box I put it in in the pictures she sent me. Tonight, I sent her an email asking her if she would bring down my TV and a few other useful things (remote, antenna, power strips {which are definitely in the box with the TV}, trash can, and laundry basket). Here's hoping she'll do it. I have no way of going up there and getting them. Not only do I miss TV, but I'd like to watch some of the Jerry Lewis telethon on Sunday. :D
Oh, so anyway, Nancy's bro asked for $20 (cheap ^_^) and I also took us both out to lunch. TOTALLY worth it. *Hugs boxes*
