The subject line says it all. :)
My commute to and from work is seriously cutting into my online time, so I got behind on LJ again. They provide us with computers in the breakroom to use to check stuff like that, and LJ wasn't blocked as far as I could see, but it's not really something I want to read at work for fear someone will read over my shoulder and ask me stupid questions about it. I really don't like nosy people gossiping about me at work, which I could see happening once they found out was "slash" is. :P Lately, I've only been able to read LJ on the weekends.
How long was that Kiss v-gift offered for free? I went to send some just now and it was no longer free. :( They usually offer them through the weekend. Pbbbt.
The next week should probably be crazy busy. Not only do we get on the phones for the first time (I'm nervous!!), but I need to get everything set up to rent an apartment and get a cell phone. It will be nice once it's all over and I can relax in my new, close-to-work apartment.
I narrowed it down to two different places I can afford.
Apt #1:
Pros
- About a mile closer to work.
- It's on the end so there's no apt across from mine, which will be nice privacy-wise.
- Close to the front entrance.
- Built-in shelving in the living room.
- Washer and dryer hookup.
- I'm certain I make enough money to be approved.
Cons
- The apts were obviously built back in the 60s or 70s and although the appliances are fairly updated, not much else is, so they look worn out on the inside. Everything just looks kind of junky. Lots of nicks and stains.
- Walk-in closet has this big junky-looking box in it that covers up the hot water heater, which takes up a serious amount of real estate that I'd rather use for clothes and storage of closet stuff.
- Sliding glass doors that lead onto the back balcony with stairs that lead down to the parking lot. I really don't feel safe when anyone who wants to can walk up those stairs to my balcony. Don't know why they did that. There's no divider between my balcony and the neighbor's balcony, either, and they obviously have kids since there are toys all over theirs. I know those kids are going to run and scream and ride their little cars all over my balcony, which bothers me. (I'm saying balcony because it's on the second floor.)
- The layout of the living room is weird. I don't know how I'm going to arrange the couch and the TV in a way that will work unless I angle all the furniture, or maybe put the TV on one of the built-in shelves, which I'm not sure will work either.
- The washer/dryer hookup is in the living room. That's just odd.
- They only have one apt available right now, so I'd have to get it before someone else possibly snatches it up.
Apt #2:
Pros
- I LOVE the layout.
- As mentioned before, wrap-around fireplace and cute shelf thing in the bedroom.
- It's been updated so it looks nice inside.
- Private balcony.
- Big walk-in closet that I do not share with a hot water heater.
- They have several apts available so I wouldn't feel like I had to rush to get it before someone else does.
Cons
- Not sure I meet the rent requirement. I make about a hundred or so dollars less than they say I'd need to meet this requirement. It's possible they will overlook this, maybe? The woman in the office seemed to really want to rent me an apartment, so maybe she can find a way around it.
- It's a mile further from work. The walk isn't that horrible, but it is longer.
- The balcony is made of wood planks, which makes it look more like a sundeck (at least that's what my dad called ours on the home I grew up in), and the wood is kind of old, so it looks junky.
- No washer/dryer hookup. I thought this floor plan had those, but it turns out it doesn't. I'd have to pay $20 more a month for one like that, which I'm not sure they have any that are unoccupied at the moment. It would be extremely nice to have a washer/dryer in my apt, but I don't know...
Honestly, I could work with either apartment, but I prefer Apt #2. We'll see how it goes! Either way, I'm excited to get to the point where it's all done and I'm in my new place so I can move all my stuff in there! Can't wait to get all my stuff back!
