Those of you who write fanfic, how do you deal with extremely stubborn muses? Lately, my muses don't want to help me write fics that they don't feel like writing. They're very stuck on certain fandoms and stories and they only want to work on those stories. They don't care that I have a deadline. I've got an entire story plotted out and ready to ( Read more... )

Go back to whatever it was that attracted you to that fandom in the first place. Watch the DVDs (or read the book or whatever), read your favorite fanfic stories, find a forum and chat about how cool X, Y, and Z is. (Of course, if you're talking about writing, say, a Yuletide story...well, the smaller the fandom, the more difficult it is to find fellow fans to have a squeefest with). Immerse yourself in it, revel in the oooh!shiny! aspects of the fandom and ignore the aggravating/annoying parts. Hopefully, that will help coax that trisky muse out of hiding.

Now I am off to do the same! (Darn yuletide! Why must you coincide with the end of the semester when my brain is thiiiis close to exploding anyway? Why?)

That may be the best thing I can do, just put on a DVD, sack out on the floor, and put a pen in my hand.

Oh, also? Give in to the muse! Spend half an hour or so working on the inappropriate story to get it out of your system. Then, once you've gotten your creative juices flowing, force yourself to switch to the other story.

The muse, she wants what she wants, you know? We mere mortals must appease her.

While this is a very good suggestion, it may work and it may backfire. My main muse, the one who jumps on my head to get me to write the most, is already licking her chops at your suggestion. I have a tendency to "get in the zone" once I start writing and often, a few hours will go by without me noticing. Their trick is to go, "You're on such a roll. Just a few more minutes. Keep writing until you get to a good stopping poin oh look! It's bedtime! Oh well."

The muse you're telling me to give in to? She's on this icon. Gaaaaaah! :D At least, this is how my imagination sees her (because she acts like a jackshit crazy little animal). I'm sure she's quite fetching in her own circles.

I think the muses are afraid of you. They relented last night and let me write half the story I wanted to work on. Whatever you did, thank you. ;D

Bwahaha! My evil powers of Muse domination are unstoppable!

;)

You're very welcome, but I think you did it all on your own!
