We all know that there isn't any real sign of a new Digimon series coming out. Everyone (including me) is hoping that supporting Digimon Data Squad will catch Toei's attention. However more and more, I'm getting discouraged.
First of all, leave it to Jetix/Disney to start airing commercials for Data Squad like 15 DAYS before it airs. I have to say that I hate Jetix commercials, because they make me feel like I have ADD. The Data Squad commercials threw in the most random clips that looked the "coolest" and to top it all off, the characters in the clips are cut-out and put in some ugly blue city setting. Although, I guess it's good enough to attract the millions of mindless drones known as "American kids". Let's face it though, how many people even have Toon Disney? You know those commercials will only attract the regular viewers of the channel (the commercials only air in the Toon Disney channel anyways).
Although to be fair, there are a lot of people who prefer the dub over the original. Sometimes, it's because they saw the dub first. However with our new age technology like Youtube, Digimon Savers (including subtitled versions) is way more accessible than the past Digimon series combined. Thus,
every.
damn.
dub.
change.
counts. Now, I'm not one of those people who go "ZOMG THEY CHANGED XYZ's NAME INTO ZYX! BLASPHEMY!" however I have limits. Things like Keenan, ok it's weird but I'll live with it. However, with the recent announcement of "DNA Charge" I can't help sit and go "WTF!?" If kids can't grasp the concept of "DigiSoul," than I find it hard to believe they would know what DNA is. I also wonder, how are they going to handle DigiSoul Dojo? "You must hone your DNA!" But, I digress. The fact is, how many people who've seen the original is going to see the dub? While of course they aren't aiming towards fans, but the general audience, I'm pretty sure there's a good chunk of people who saw some of the original.
But we have to show our support anyways, plus Data Squad hasn't aired yet, it might very well be kick ass. HOWEVER, threads like
these seriously discourage me. I understand some people having legit reasons for youtubing (example: Vande, who lives in the UK), however this is a chance for us Americans to show our support. Taking the easy way out will probably only hinder any future Digimon stuff.
Digimon Data Squad is still 15 days away from airing, and yet I already see so much things wrong... Maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but I cannot see the "flawless dub" in the Data Squad, the way some people see it.
