Yeah, meant to try to post weekly. Notsomuch. Shall we wait and see? ;p
Work has been busy as hell. Our LTE (Limited Term Employee) started this week, but because she has another part-time job her schedule is a little peripatetic. We don't know when or how often we're going to have her. Our new student hourly started today, though! Yay!! It's really pretty great, because our LTE is our former student hourly, so putting them together for training the new one is perfect. Also, I've been putting in lots of overtime, which I don't get paid for, but that should be ending with having a new student hourly. More yay for the downtrodden underclassmen.
We finally went to the dreaded list for the new full-timer. We took the first ten on the list, which actually nets us the first fourteen (do not ask me, the ways of state employment are arcane and nonsensical). The dean, J., and I will be doing phone interviews next week to weed them out to the top three-five. The initial phone interviews give us a good opportunity to evaluate their communication skills; the prime thing we're looking for. We field anywhere from 20-40 calls a day, many of them lasting 5-10 minutes at a whack; we do our best to answer any and all questions before pawning the call off on an advisor. You really need to know your shit.
The roomie is coming back next week. Here again, gone again, Finnegan. ::shrugs:: She keeps saying she's going to get a job every time she comes back, but has yet to do so. I don't mind that she's not working, I'm just tired of the promises she never keeps. I think she's kidding herself she's ever going to work again; she takes off every time she even gets close to taking that step. Eh, I can't complain too much, it's pretty much like having an unpaid live in maid when she's here.
Haven't gotten out too much in the past couple of weeks, other than grocery shopping. :( I did go over to the daughter's last Sunday to help her move furniture from her bedroom upstairs to the guest bedroom downstairs. The carpeting in her bedroom is going to have to be replaced (again, the first time from water damage that her home warranty covered) because her new roommates' cat pees all over it. The cat is on meds, but if that doesn't fix the problem, Alexia says the cat is outtathere.
I am not, at this time, inheriting Otis. Alexia's roommates are keeping their cats sequestered in the lower level with them for now. Otis has free range of the middle and upper levels. As long as she manages to keep him from escaping the house, everything should be fine. That was also one of the reasons she wanted me to take him, so I could still end up doing that. But for now, I am still catless and that's fine by me for now.
This Saturday I'm off to see Kiss Me, Kate with my dad at the reopened Memorial Union Theatre. They decided to put that on as their first production since they opened the theatre in 1939 with The Taming of the Shrew. For those musical Philistines, Kiss Me, Kate is a musical version of The Taming of the Shrew. The movie version with Kathryn Grayson and Howard Keel is a classic. I love those two together; Showboat with them is my favorite all time movie musical.
It looks like they're running a Star Trek Big Bang again this year. Haven't decided if I'm going to sign up or not. I know I could do 20k easy, I'm just worried about starting a story and finding out it would take me 100k to actually write it! How about a genderfluid Jim Kirk and a limping Leonard McCoy, where Jim is a Sherlock Holmes analog and Bones is his Watson? I think that would be a hell of a story! If I can pull it off. :D
