whether you're having fun or not!
I have been having fun, though. Went to a friend's birthday party last week Monday, where we ate lots of yummy southwestern style appetizers, had some funky drinks (Blazing Saddle - with chile tequila OMG), and just chilled for a couple of hours. Retired to Castle Bloodskull (don't ask) for cake and movies (Ghostbusters - Sigourney Weaver, be still my beating heart.) Overall lovely time.
Tuesday was Captain America: The Winter Soldier with a subset of the same friends. I, for one, found it mostly awesome.
1) Totally never saw it coming that S.H.I.E.L.D had been more or less taken over by HYDRA. OMG!
2) I thought it was fantastic that Armin Zola had his consciousness stored in a computer, it ties into his mythos in the comic books nicely.
3) Wasn't really impressed with Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, for both casting and the plot line. I thought they gave it away too quickly that he was a baddie.
4) Loved, loved, loved Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon and the friendship that sprouts between him and Steve. I do wish they had found a way to work in Redwing, too, though. Maybe he'll show up in Captain America 3 with him? One can only hope.
5) It cracked me up the way Natasha kept trying to set Steve up with various women, even the nice nurse next door to him. (We all know he's waiting for Tony to break up with Pepper, right? Oh, that's just my fangirl hopes, dang it.)
6) Also waiting for the threesome fic with Natasha, Steve, and Sam. And then hate sex between Cap and Winter Soldier. I don't care that they know who each other is, it just needs to happen. "You left me to fall down a ravine!" "You shot me and threw me off a helicarrier!"
7) Who knew Nick Fury was hiding another eye behind the patch?? I figured it was an empty socket. Why, I don't know, but I loved that he was able to use the biometric scanner because of it. And what about the "he's dead, Jim" fakeout? This whole movie is a ton of fakeouts and I loved it.
8) I actually liked Maria Hill in this movie. She's always a BAMF, but this time she seemed to be more helpful towards the superheroes than obstructionist.
9) Liked the way they brought Agent 13 into the story - she was the nurse next door! Wonder if she'll show in Cap 3? It's canon in comics that Steve and Agent 13, who is actually Peggy Carter's niece, Sharon Carter, get together. Guess we'll have to wait and see, there's nothing on IMDb to indicate one way or the other.
10) What the hell - the whole damn movie. I think I need to go see it, again. :D
It seems like I've been writing more fic lately. I think I've posted as many stories so far this year as I posted for all of last year. Now, if I could just get off my butt and finish my WIPs. And start writing on my trope bingo entries. Ugh.
The cat is doing okay. He started throwing up again, so I upped his dose of steroids (which the vet said wouldn't make a difference, but it did.) I've lowered it back to where the vet said, anyway, so I expect the puking to start again. We've decided to try adding a new med, a chemotherapy pill, to see how that goes for a while. We never did a biopsy, so we don't have definitive proof it's lymphoma, but I don't see what else it could be at this point because the steroids would fix the puking if Elliot just had IBS.
More good news to end with! My daughter got a promotion at work, finally. They shot her down the first time she presented for director, but this time she blew them away. One of her coworkers said hers was the best presentation she'd ever seen. So! Happy for the daughter. Now she won't be eating ramen to keep her house in good shape. (She's had a series of bad luck things happen, most covered by her homeowner's insurance, though, so it's not really that bad. I exaggerate.)
I don't feel like talking about work, today, so I think I'll save some of that for another time. Suffice to say, lot's of changes coming. It could get hairy for a while.
Lastly, I've got clogged sinuses and my left ear and eye are killing me. Hope it clears up enough tonight that it won't bug me too much tomorrow. I work the front desk all day on Wednesdays and having to suffer with that and be nice to customers all day. More Ugh.
