and not just today. Turns out that company I was all hot for in Kenosha went with someone else. Someone internal to the company. Color me stupid. I've been so used to my last place, which never interviewed external candidates unless all internal apps were dead ends, that I never even considered that I'd have any competition from inside! Duh. Ah, well, just a job.
I'm still applying for stuff online, although I'm not sure that it's as effective a strategy as I thought it would be. With all the modcons of the internet, you almost wonder why, or how, employment angencies are able to stay afloat. So, I made a list of the larger agencies here in town, pulled up their websites and found a few postings that look like they aren't the same as most of the ones I've been finding online. I'd gone over to my dad's and run off some copies of my resume on his laser printer and those I'm going to actually show up with in person at those agencies. I've also broadened my search quite a bit. Both in industry and area. I've avoided the aviation industry because there just isn't any local to Madison. But poking around one national job search website I found a couple of different jobs that would so closely match my background that I could just sit right down and get to work. One is as a technical instruction writer for Navy avionics equipment (Rockwell Collins) in Cedar Rapids, IA and the other is as an ATI (avionics technician, intermediate) instructor at NATTC Pensacola, FL. I particularly like the thought of the one in Florida, because of the work and the location. I was an avionics tech for 14 years, I could do that job with one hand tied behind my back. And I like Florida, I love the weather. I could live there. Iowa...reminds me of Riley Finn. Ugh. So not my cuppa. But the job, maybe the money. I could do it.
