First of all, my rave. I'm seriously impressed with the response from the Hartford Police Dept. I didn't post about it, but I went with Jessica and her friend Chrissy to see Ani DiFranco in Hartford a couple of weeks ago. I almost bailed on the show but last minute decided to go. We got there late to miss the shitty opening acts and the Webster parking lot was full. The guy working the lot told us to drive around the corner to park in Adolph's Meat Market, where another parking attendant met us and charged us $5 to park. It was a bit of a walk and raining but at least we finally found parking. Well, sure enough, we come out of the show and every car in the lot has been towed. The lot was full, probably 30 cars. The lot was now full of screaming, angry Ani fans stranded in a bad neighborhood. Luckily Jessica has a friend that lives in Hartford so he came and took us to the really sketchy tow place so we could wait for hours in a cold room and pay $120 cash to get her car out of hock. Someone involved in this mess had the forsight to get everyone's email addresses and did some legwork- I guess it was on the news even. I got an email this morning from the police captain that works that area and I guess he's been working with the wrecking company to get some kind of reimbursement for us. It looks like we'll get $90 back if all goes well...way more than I expected!
Then, I check the mail to see that we had an oil delivery yesterday and they charged me $2.799 per gallon- WTF?!?!?! I didn't sign the damn contract with them because that's what they quoted me in the middle of the summer when prices were twice as high as they are now. I called the company and the rep gave me all kinds of scare tactics and talk about how they're a full service company so I can expect to pay a bit more than a "fly by night" oil company would charge. He was even talking about the potential for oil companies to start rejecting new customers so "gasp" I wouldn't even be able to get oil if I weren't their customer. Bull-$hit. I'm so pissed off and so is TJ. He wants me to have them come and pump the oil back out of our tank, which I doubt they would do. My contract is up with them in a week so I need to call around for prices to see what else is out there. We have an old furnace so I definitely want a contract but it's not worth $600-800 to me per year to worry about my children turning into popsicles in the middle of the night. If it broke in the middle of the night and we didn't have a contract, guess what? We'd go stay with my MIL until it could get fixed. We wouldn't be frozen solid and those thousands of dollars we would have saved by shopping around for oil and not using middle of the night service for years on end would be in our savings account for the chance that we did need it. This is highway robbery.
Well, I'd better go rest for when the little man is done with preschool. I told myself I would. He was sad, didn't want to go this morning. He kept saying he was going to miss me too much. He's already learned how to work me!
