Loneliness of a Mid-Distance Hiker

Noel Coward once mused,"... Only Mad Dogs & Englishmen go out into the mid-day sun." Well, he's only 2/3 correct ... avid hardcore hikers would not only dare to but also bask in the glory of 34C sunshine for over 3 hours! Having scowered the wild trails of HK island, a significant portion of the Kowloon peninsula and the outback boonies of the New Territories over the past 5 years, I developed this persistent wanderlust of the great outdoors inspite the city's suffocating humidity and browbeating ultraviolets.  Perhaps, it's the blind backstabbing of peanut politics and dull rabid pursuit of the rat race here that encouraged my deep desire "to getaway from it all" ... though at times, I pursue my strides alone.

Today was a time of meditation and of comtemplation on past and present:

Of surprising remembrance from an almost-forgotten friend and of unrelenting pettiness from a longtime colleague;

Of norishing bread cast upon confused minds and of unwanted pearls dropped upon online swines;

Of dire warnings from the great beyond and of encouraging blessings from dear ones near.

Here's life in a nutshell:

Heat and Sweat, Desires and Death;

Blisters and Boils, Determination and Toil;

No cheap manna from heaven; only calling & duty 7 to 11.
