Bombay Movie Review

For the first time I saw Mani Ratnam's Bombay heard loads of good things about the film and its certainly lived up to the high expectations. Mani have handled the whole issue superbly and the message he wanted to give with this movie came across beautifully. The movie is powerful. The riot scenes just stuck to my head, they are emotional and one can moved by those scenes very easily. Especially the scene just before interval, it shocks you.

The romance is so adorable, its typical Mani Ratnam style those are who are aware of Mani's films will understand. He creates best moments from simple scenes.

The performances are really good here. Manisha gives a very neat performance, I am not a great fan of hers but here she gives an superb performance, she is equally good in light scenes and heavy ones. Arvind Swamy was great, this is the first time I saw his film and I really liked his performance he was natural. But the real show stealer's were the little kids who just make you tear up with their emotional scenes.

The music in brilliant and is a classic. Love all the songs.

Overall those who have not seen this film, watch it. Its real good film with real good message and awesome performances.

Firaaq Movie Review

I had loads of expectations from Firaaq maybe because Nandita  was a director, but the movie seemed that there was something missing which I cant pin point. It seemed something was lacking. The message is strong and powerful but it does not come across that well.

Movie is dragging, slow and boring at certain places, some stories are not written that well which make you confuse. To me it seemed that Nandita wanted to say much with this film but she could not show that in the film. The script was a big let down cant really sum up all the stories together that well.

Having said that, I would credit Nandita for making her first movie on this important issue, she shows good sign to be a promising director with they way she handle the film without making it went over the top or some kind of melodrama. And most importantly taking some good performances out of the actors. All were believable in their roles.

Overall not a great movie. After finishing the movie you feel something was empty. There are so many things in the movie which are just left like that and as audience you feel unanswered.
