Chapter 13

Re-cap

Looking at Yunho’s face, he knew that everything would be okay and that his heart was now whole with Yunho’s love and the love of his brothers.

Epilogue

6 weeks later…

Tohoshinki Speed Bulletin!

Tohoshinki’s YoungWoong JaeJoong is going to make his first appearance at their final Japan concert tonight after his open-heart surgery 6 weeks ago! Make sure you’re there to show support!!!

At the Concert

Behind the Camera POV

Through the screen the video camera showed itself moving through the backstage set, past lights and switchboards and backstage staff.

The noise level was at a low hum due to the fact that four members of Dong Bang Shin Ki were in the midst of their final Japan concert.

The video cam moved forward, weaving silently through the small spaces until it got to the stage area. It moved on until it neared the entrance to stage left.

From the dim light of the stage, a handsome figure in a black suit with jet-black hair came slowly into focus. He had his right arm wrapped protectively around his chest, a habit that had developed during the first three weeks of his recovery and continued to stick as time moved on.

He had the curtain pulled back slightly and was watching through the small gap.

The sound of the fans was deafening as DBSK minus 1 finished singing “Million Men”.

As the camera neared him, JaeJoong turned to it, holding a finger to his lips and motioning for quiet.

“We have a special surprise for you today!” Yunho’s voice echoed in reality and was recorded by the video screen.

JaeJoong looked at the camera and gave an embarrassed smile.

He still held the curtain slightly ajar and Yunho and Changmin could be seen on stage in the background.

“It’s my first appearance after 6 weeks away and this is our last Japan concert, so I didn’t want to leave Cassiopeia Japan without saying goodbye,” JaeJoong whispered to the camera.

He released another soft embarrassed laugh as the camera continued to focus on him. When JaeJoong realized it wasn’t going to go away any time soon, he covered his mouth and giggled softly.

A staff member rushed to him and handed him his microphone while another staff member took over the task of holding the curtain open.

JaeJoong faced the camera front-on and it captured the unconscious movement of his right arm automatically wrapping around his chest as his left hand held his microphone.

“Ah,” he said in his usual JaeJoong way, as if he were thinking of what else to say. He laughed again in embarrassment as Yoochun’s voice resounded through the set.

“Our JaeJoong is here today to greet you all!”

JaeJoong turned towards the stage then looked back at the camera.

“Wish me luck! I’m worried that they hate me for not taking enough care…” he laughed, but as he looked at the camera, his dark eyes showed that he was only half joking.

The camera view shook its head no as if saying that JaeJoong was worried for nothing.

[Music - ‘Begin’ - DBSK]

Changmin’s voice was calling him out on stage and as JaeJoong turned, “Begin” began playing softly, signaling his cue to enter the stage with the sound of their Japanese ballad.

The camera captured the moment as JaeJoong stepped towards the opening of the curtain. At the last minute, the tall figure of Yunho blocked the opening, his eyes swiftly searching and locating JaeJoong.

“Aja, Joongie, they’re waiting for you…” and without another word, Yunho beckoned to him and held out a strong arm.

JaeJoong POV

He felt his love’s arm wrap securely around his waist, and suddenly he didn’t feel as scared.

As the lights of the stage brightened, JaeJoong clutched his microphone nervously.

Changmin, Yoochun and Junsu came into view.

And then the screams of the fans heightened so much in excitement as JaeJoong stepped onto the stage, Yunho behind him, silently offering his support.

Changmin, Yoochun and Junsu smiled affectionately at him. They were also clapping and cheering for him along with the crowd.

JaeJoong blushed and laughed softly, automatically raising a hand to his mouth.

He faced the fans with a thankful look on his face and caught sight of some of them shedding tears.

JaeJoong brought the microphone to his lips and said his first words, the speech he had rehearsed flying out the window.

“Ah, don’t cry for me…” he said softly. The screaming deafened him as the fans reacted to hearing his voice.

Yunho continued to stand beside him, gently giving his waist a comforting squeeze.

“I’m sorry for worrying all of you so much. It wasn’t my intention to make you all worry for me…” JaeJoong continued.

“JAEJOONGIE OPPA, SARANGHAE!!!!!!” a group of fans screamed at him in his native language.

He looked in the general direction and caught sight of a poster saying the exact same thing as what those fans had just screamed.

JaeJoong blushed in embarrassment and laughed again, his hand flying to his mouth.

“Aish…this is embarrassing…” he softly voiced in Korean, and then bowed deeply in their direction, adding, “Kamsahamnida (thank you)…”

“Awww!” The Japanese fans exclaimed when they saw him blush and bow.

“Awwww! JaeJoong-hyung, Aishiteru!!!!(i love you)” Junsu, Yoochun and Changmin mimicked teasingly in Japanese as they laughed and made the crowd laugh as well.

JaeJoong didn’t know that he could blush for so long.

“But really,” he continued. “Arigato (thank you) so much for your support during these past few weeks.”

He caught sight of a few more fans crying and sought desperately to make them feel better.

“Ah! It doesn’t even hurt! Don’t cry for me, I’m okay…” he said again with a laugh.

“Yah, JaeJoong-hyung,” Junsu said. “We’d just like to let you know how happy we are that you’re better.”

“Hai!” Yoochun added. “Everyone was really worried for you and we’re glad to have such a strong hyung in heart, mind and soul.”

Changmin faced him next. “We knew you’d be fine and our next hope in our prayers is to see you perform with us again…”

He saw Changmin nod to the crowd and then…”WE MISS YOU JAEJOONG!!!!” The fans cried in unison.

Yoochun, Changmin and Junsu were grinning widely at his surprised expression.

JaeJoong blushed some more.

Suddenly he heard the fans erupt into a series of excited screams.

He hadn’t noticed that Yunho had left his side and as the fans turned hysterical, JaeJoong turned to find Yunho re-entering the stage and approaching him.

He had changed out of his white suit and wore a similar black suit to JaeJoong’s, holding a rose and a black velvet box in one hand and his microphone in the other.

To the fans, it looked like the leader of DBSK was just bringing JaeJoong a ‘welcome back’ gift, (with an implied JaeHo moment of course), but within the members of Dong Bang Shin Ki, they knew that the JaeHo was real, and this moment was its official declaration.

As Yunho faced him, JaeJoong’s breath hitched in his throat. The butterflies in his stomach were making him emotional.

In silence, Yunho handed him the rose, and then as they stared into each other’s eyes, he opened the black velvet box and presented it to JaeJoong.

The screaming of the fans faded in JaeJoong’s ears as he continued to face Yunho.

Yunho offered him an encouraging nod, and JaeJoong finally looked down.

It was a simple silver ID bracelet glittering up at him. Not the thick ones that gangsters wore, but delicate and light. It looked like it had just the perfect weight for him.

JaeJoong was speechless as he read the words engraved on the underside of the tag.

“Han Sarang. JaeHo <3”

(One Love. JaeHo <3)

He looked up at Yunho, his eyes wide with shock. Silently, Yunho took the bracelet out of its box and handed both the box and his microphone to the waiting Changmin.

He slipped the bracelet on JaeJoong’s wrist and smiled at him.

By that time, the fans were bordering hysterical. As JaeJoong remained speechless, Yunho subtly held out his wrist, taking care not to show the fans their secret IDs.

He wore a similar bracelet with the tag hugging the inside of his wrist and the rest of the bracelet fastened securely.

Slowly, Yunho turned his hand and wrist, so that the underside of his wrist subtly faced JaeJoong.

Han Sarang. JaeHo <3 it read in barely audible script on the outside of the tag.

JaeJoong reached out and slightly flipped the tag to see the underside and saw the words engraved bolder in black script.

Yunho smiled at him and took his microphone back from Changmin.

“Welcome back, JaeJoongie-yah,” he announced aloud in Japanese and then stepped forward, wrapping his arms gently around JaeJoong.

The fans were practically falling out of their seats with JaeHo overload, and had given up on trying to control themselves, succumbing to the urge of screaming hysterically with excitement.

But JaeJoong was beyond being concerned.

…Yunho was hugging him on stage…in front of everyone.

He felt a warm breath reach his ear and then a soft whisper from Yunho caught him and successfully took hold of his heart taking it forever and for all eternity.

“Saranghae, JaeJoongie-yah.” Yunho breathed softly. “…Na chongmal saranghaeyo.” (I really love you).

Silently, JaeJoong lifted his arms and finally returned Yunho’s warm hug with one of his own.

JaeJoong felt his eyes slowly drift closed as Yunho subtly nuzzled his hair.

He savored every moment and wanted to remember it forever.

He wanted nothing more than what he had at that very moment and it was the best feeling in the world.

“I love you too, Yunho-ah. With all of my un-broken heart… I love you too.”

[Music fade]
