"It's called the Nexus." Ali's answer is accompanied by the sudden shade of a parasol being held above his head. The fact he's probably drow, and the problems that will cause him, are rather obvious (Ali being slightly geeky and having occasionally dabbled in various games of ill repute). "Is the light bothering you?"
The drow peeks out from his fingers, red eyes squinting against the light, even at the shade of the parasol. All he makes out of Ali is her shape, and not much else, still blinded by both the sign and other lights in the Nexus. "Aye, it hurts. The Nexus? Bah, it's bright, it must be the surface. Is that a correct assumption, mistress?"
It should be mentioned, she's a rather pregnant shape, and not trying to hide that fact.
"Yes, we're aboveground. Here, hold the parasol, I have some sunglasses. Those should help too. They, um, they're glasses with dark shades to block out some of the light."
If he takes the parasol and frees her hands, it won't take her too long to find the aforementioned shades. They're a bit glitzy and girly and 50s, but who's he to complain?
"My friends call me Ali, by the way. You're welcome to do the same. What's your name?"
He nods, taking the parasol from her and watching her with a pained expression. "Ah, Rononlin Oussiryn, Lady Ali. My house matters not," He holds his other hand out as he closes his eyes again, trying to block out the stinging of his eyes. "I think I should count myself as quite alone now."
You're in the Nexus. Chances are good you weren't sent here intentionally.
*That, from a tall, blond woman in a blue garment form-fitting enough to pass muster in Lolth's dark cities, though entirely too bright a color and lacking in spider-and-skull themes.*
If he is scandalized or pleased one way or the other he doesn't show it. He mearly adjusts the pink sunglasses and bows. "Rononlin Oussiryn, mistress. I'm pretty sure the Matron had a more...painful place in mind."
"Everyone in the Underdark is. She was just the one who could read minds and do something about it." He grunted slightly. "I should count myself lucky I am not a drider. A pleasure to meet you, Samus." Something tells him honorifics will not endear him to this woman.
Rononlin makes a surprised noise, unsure of what to make of these little ones. He adjusts the sunglasses. "Yes, little ones. I come from a world without so much of it."
"If there are, I will try to find them. Till then these glasses help." He smiles at their innocent pondering. "It is kind of you to think of me, but what if there is a person who is hurt by the dark? Darkening the Nexus may hurt his eyes as much as mine."
He spares a glance at the Sign again, giving it his best look of disdain. "Ah? Actually, the general brightness of everything has been hurting. Ali's glasses help of course, but..." A shrug.
Kage is stunned for a moment. This man looks familiar to him.. not in an I-know-him manner, but in a his-coloring-is-familiar manner.
He takes his normally-less-used ability, and gathers the shadows around him before approaching the man, then projects them just slightly ahead of him, so the area around him dims. "It's the best I can do, I'm afraid. I can't control them as well as Mother could. Only a halfbreed."
"You've stumbled into the Nexus, a realm that touches on all others, all realities. You sound as though you're lucky to be here instead of elsewhere, but I know that doesn't really help much."
"Is there any way in which I can help?"
((OOC: Kage's mother was from a race very similar to drow in many, but not all, respects. I don't know how this would be perceived by your charie, but I thought it worth mentioning, just in case.))
That is a sigh of pleased relief from the drow. "Oh, that still helps me greatly. Thank you for the consideration, are all people as kind in this...Nexus? I have been told for so long that the surface is so harsh." His eyes narrow behind the glasses. "Halfbreed?" The face is rather sharp. "Half-elf?"
"I'm happy to help. Most of the people in the Nexus are ok.. There's the occasional person you just want to rip their intestines out, but it's pretty easy to avoid them most of the time, once you know who they are."
Kage will blush slightly. "Yeah.. my mother's people looked like you, and that's who I was raised with. I'm sure you can imagine how well I was treated." And Kage's sour face should tell you if your imagination isn't that good. "My father was a fire elemental, but she killed him when she found out what he'd done to her."
The drow winces at his admission. "I...am not sure what to say to that, young sir. It explains your coloring, though I imagine your page prince days were trying."

"Does the light bother you, Mister?" asks Luca.
"This is the Nexus," says Kaze.

"I don't know why it wouldn't make it darker for you if it hurts you," says Luca. "Usually the Nexus is a nice place."
"We don't know any spells to make things darker," adds Kaze. "But maybe the Nexus will decide it's night time soon?"

"We try to get rid of that thing, but it keeps coming back."
